A lot of play in calipers
« on: July 03, 2005, 10:15:07 pm »
I just had new front brake pads installed in my 99 pontiac grand am.The calipers are tight but seem to have a lot of play in them.Is this normal as they are very rattley when going over bumps. Also I have a wheel shake at about 110 kmh.Not sure but this may be a seperate problem.
any help would be appreciated.

Kapt42 Welcome to the Forum, did they put any Anti-rattle grease on the back of the pads when they installed the new pads? If not then they should have as they will rattle otherwise. A shake in the wheel at those speeds I would supect to be a possible lost wheel weight which will cause that to happen around those speeds. A re-balance of the wheel in question will probably resolve this. Ask for a high speed balance for this wheel.

The play seems to be in the caliper itself.
The rebalance of the wheels seems to be the obvious solution . Thank You,
