Problems with 2005 RAV4
« on: June 30, 2005, 10:12:33 am »
I am having issues with the RAV4 I purchased last April as the Check Engine Light is coming on all the time!
We have already brought the car 5 times to the dealership...
The First 2 times, code was for low pressure in the gas tank, and the last one was for a deficient charcoal filter.
Yesterday, the light came on again.
It makes me wonder if the problem is with the CPU unit (like for instance its generating random error codes), but one would think the CPU would have its own sanity checks ( That is what I would do if I were in charge of the Firmware)

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problems?
It really sucks, I feel like I just bought a VW (just kiddind )
Maybe I should take it to another dealership, as those guys seem to be unable to fix it...
Did I buy the one Toyota lemon?
Thanks for your help.

I had the same kind of problem with the '02 Subie Impreza I had. I must have had 8 or 10 CELs in about 1.5 years. Several were not tightening the gas cap enough; but once I knew about that, that never happened again. In the end, the stealership had to replace the O2 sensor TWICE, that seemed to do it as in the last 6 months I had it, no CELs. Might be an idea??

I had no CELs with my '04 RAV in the 15 months I had it. It is not a common problem for RAVs AFAIK. Good luck, keep trying - the problem will be found with persistence.

Thanks Ovr, It is just I was not expecting this kind of problems with a RAV4 being on top of the JD Power Quality charts after 90 days of ownership... Maybe I can change that!
I had a little issue with the stealership () as one of their tech dinged the driver's door, but they fixed it pretty fast without arguing at all!

They need to come up with a better system than just ONE check engine light.  Perhaps a panel that rates the fault in terms of urgency/importance so an owner is not always fretting over certain codes.  Codes set off by gas tanks and charcoal filters can wait.

It is just I was not expecting this kind of problems with a RAV4 being on top of the JD Power Quality charts after 90 days of ownership

Imagine what it's like out of warranty @ $100. a pop just to read it and the travel time/distance hassle to and from a dealer.

I started up my 88 Jeep Cherokke yesterday for the first time since last September.  Sat outside covered in pine needles.  Get in, run up the fuel pump and the thing springs to life.  Somewhere close to 300K on it.  No check lite to deal with.  It is such a pleasure.
