How come cars don't overheat anymore

Y'all haven't driven the Coquihalla lately have you?

In addition to hoses and ECU's, what about block material?  I had a CRX with the aluminium block that would not heat up in the winter while as a kid the old Pontiac would start to cause stress for my Dad when stuck in traffic on the #1 through the Fraiser Canyon.

Many new engines have alu blocks or at least alu heads which transmit heat more efficiently.

Chris is right - the only vehicles I have seen overheating in the past number of years are on the long uphills on the Coq. You usually see one each trip and it usually appears to be someone from the LM who has not maintained their vehicle properly and after years of puttering around VCR, decides to drive it to Kelowna or Kamloops over the Coq. That'll do 'er!!

Same with tires in the winter - many go without snow tires in the LM, then do one trip over the Coq - oh, oh, trouble.

My 2003 Nissan Sentra didn't get that memo either, it overheated about a week ago.

Neither did a 98 Ford Taurus wagon that was on fire in the mall parking lots today

Although I was told that the owner left the A/C running or something...
