if i consistanly rev the engine to around 4k-5k rpms i assume this will cause more engine wear. but since honda engines get more of their power at higher rpms (esp since vtec kicks in at around 3k rpms) then shouldnt these engines be capables of withstanding these high rpms better then, say a ford engine?

Congrats on choosing an excellent car mofomikes.  I like your taste ;)  Once I did the road test in the RSX, I knew I had to get it and I actually did get one two weeks ago.

As for your question, I'm not entirely sure but I figure that yes these engines are able to withstand higher rpms better than most engines considering how quickly it revs up and where the peak power comes.

I drove an Integra for a few years and after 166k, the engine felt and sounded just like it was brand new even after it's good share of high revs.

High rpm, especially under load will cause more wear.... but whether an extre 1/100,000 of an inch after 100,000 miles makes all that much difference...

Use synth oil of Acura's recommended viscosity and change it on schedule or even more frequently and that engine should do 400,000 miles

Hondas are just better motors.  Better metal, better bearings, better design, better everything.
They have really captured the small engine market.  However, your motor is pretty advanced and when it does get older and if the valve train needs work it won't be a cheap job like in the past.  That's the downside with all this I-Vtec stuff.  Double Vanos on a BMW is in the same pot.  Who can afford to repair it?

When an engine can go 300K+ trouble free of sweet motoring, why even need to worry about repairs? Swap a less mileage mileage one in.

MoFo, I had the same question regarding high revving and engine wear, but it seems that Honda does design fantastic engines, and they are more suited and designed for revving in mind.

I think they are better built to withstand that type of driving, but I wouldn't be keeping the RPMs up unnecessarily as metal does wear.

nice.  exactly what i wanted to hear. besides the handling, all the fun factor starts around 4000rpm. but i usually baby it when im cruising to and from work so ill pretend that offsets the occasional vtec scream.
