Hey,

Here we have heard all about the kind of crappy OB tires we have got (read: Protenza RE92 and GY Integrity). However, I do beleive there are some decent ones out there.

My Jetta comes with Eagle LS. It is by far NOT the best one, but it manages to do many things decently. It's quite; It grips alright and even has ok snow traction. Just not too sporty and not overly durable.

My mom's Protege ES comes with Dunlop Sport SP Sport 5000. It is road hugging in wet and dry but kind of noisy and only marginal during witner.

My gf' family has a Focus ZX5. the Pirelli P6 isn't too bad neither.

Please feel free to whine about your OB tires!

You mean OEM?  In 1992, we got a new Sentra that came with Michelin XGT-4.  Those weren't bad.  My wife's '03 Golf still has the OE Goodyears (Eagle LS like your Jetta, I believe) and they seem decent.

Other than that, absolutely no OEM tires I'd consider decent.  The rest ranged from just mediocre to worse than the stuff from a horse's arse.
Suck, squeeze, bang, blow - who wouldn't love the internal combustion engine?  ;D

I have heard but cannot say it's true for sure that OEM tires may be inferior to the same brand/name tire bought at a tire store later. Example - a Michelin Energy MX4 as an OEM is spec'ed differently than an Energy MX4 you might buy later. Is there any true to that? Morty might know.

Definitely different. Vehicle manufacturer will request different specs in order that they can meet rolling resistance requirements. They do this by changing the tread compound and adding more silica than the might do in the aftermarket version.

Yikes! That means that replacement Continental CH-95s would wear even faster than the OEMs? It looks like I will be lucky to get 40k km's on the OEMs till I am on the wear bars.

Complaints about 40k kms on tires, wow, I've lived in performance summer tires for too long.  I'm thrilled to get over 25k kms.

Say Mort, can you rig me up a tire as sticky as the Azenis, with the wet performance of the T1-R, the weight of the T1-S, and the sidewalls of the SO-3 and an 80k kms treadwear guarentee.  I'm willing to pay!

Davidm. I wouldn't be complaining about 40k kms of life on the Conti's if they weren't such lousy tires. I'll accept lousy treadlife for performance. On my Contour SVT I would get about 25k km on the BFG G-Force KDW's before they were bald, but they would stick!. My Conti's are a 65 series all-season tire on the family wagon. 40k is pretty lame.

Ktm25, I wasn't taking a shot at you, your comments just reminded me how you (I) get used to a certain norm and forget what the rest of the world is interested in.

40k  for all-season tires is okay I guess.  Will be interesting to see how much I get out of the OEM P6's that came with the A4.  They have been pretty decent as warm weather tires.

No worries I didn't think you were taking a shot. Just clarifying. The Conti CH95's are cheap for a reason...

I think of one popular OEM tire: Michelin MXV4 plus. I heard it's pretty good, unlike its sibling MXV4 used on older Sonata. I heard it's crap
