Who drives Buicks?
« on: June 23, 2005, 10:59:15 am »
Remember that discussion we had about what age group drive Buicks?  This morning on the way to work along the Gardiner I saw two late model Buicks being driven by.... 30 something year old men.  (I automatically thought 'company car').  Yesterday I saw a late model Buick being driven by.... a blue haired little old lady.

My grandfather's last car was a Buick.  No, sorry, he sold the Buick and bought a Lincoln.  That was about 10 years ago.  He crashed the Lincoln because he was going blind and we don't mind old blind people driving.  But, he liked Lincolns and Buicks.  He's 91 now.  That's Buick's demographic.  It's kinda too bad for Buick since they're the best constructed GM products.
No place I'd rather be...

Most older 90s Buicks are driven almost exclusively by old people. Lesabres and Centurys are almost exclusive grandpa mobiles. You normally see them driving down the road at 10 under the speed limit, almost coming to a complete stop to take the slightest right turn.

You do see older Buicks with the occasional younger person driving though. I guess guys who needed a big car at a cheap price, probably bought it off a little old lady with 40k on the clock over 10 years.

But newer Regals, Allures, and Rendezvous seem to have a big enough younger audience.

I know I'm 19 and wouldn't mind a nice 240hp Supercharged Regal GS or one of those classy looking Allures.

I also once saw a younger black guy driving a newer Century with tints and aftermarket wheels, looked great.

My Mom just bought a new Allure. She's 81. No way I could get her and Dad to look at an Accord, they know Hondas are well built but they've been driving Buicks since the 70s.

I drove her car, it is actually pretty nice compared to her 1998 Century. Interior is about 400% classier and looks to be screwed together very well. Some strange things though, the passenger airbag light stays on all the time. And its supposed to, to let you know it is working. Whoever designed that should be shot, most people don't want to see what looks like a warning light illuminated continuously. And the rear seat is just plain uncomfortable.

I still can't see anybody under 50 voluntarily driving a Buick product.

The Rendezvous reminds me of "Desperate Housewives" - Lynette (Felicity Huffman) drives one on the show.

Anyone noticed how the allegedly "leather" seats of the Allure actually have a cheap tacky plastic panel on the back facing the rear passenger?

Why cover 85% of the seat with leather and then not finish the job?

Actually, Sky, that's fairly common with "leather" seats. A number of other makes do the same thing; usually the non-leaather part is chosen to blend in with the real leather and you have to have a good eye to spot the difference tho.

HSG, that airbag light is actually present on the dash of the Corolla too. Pretty stupid to let you know that the passenger airbag is activated IMO.

I think we had this "Buick discussion" already and I posted links to the average age of Buick (car at least) drivers being 68 and the median from another source was 70. There was some dispute with those facts from certain parties, but that's what they are.

I think there is a big difference between who drives NEW Buicks (mostly older than 60 years old) versus those 5+ years old Century and Regals (varies greatly because they're cheap used vehicles and people of all sorts drive them.)

Another thing I noticed is that the Rendez-Vous seems to attract mostly middle-aged people, even some with young kids.

So yeah, I believe the avg of 68 is true for NEW Buicks being sold today, but not necessarily for overall Buick drivers.

I have noticed Allure's age group is younger than those of Century and Regal. LeSabre and Park Avenue remain the oldest age group while Rendervous the youngest.

Buicks are also likely rental cars.  I've had them twice in the past several years.

Well, it looks like the PhantomPhool is now following Ovr around and donating 1 star ratings. Everyone has to have a hobby, I guess.

Noticed that - been a couple this AM. Maybe I ruffled someone's feathers a bit.. (especially when it shows up on a very uncontentious lease taxation comment).

I'll probably still sleep OK tho.

Would not the Camry have the same age grouping as a Buick.
Around here all the old people  drive Camry , which would fit with a Buick Century, a plain boring car, something a great grandparent would drive
