Extended Warranty

I'm looking for opinions about car extended warranties. I especially would like to hear from 00-02 Ford Focus owners, as I own an'03 and am debating the merits either way.

Must be from the manufacturer only.

What are the details; cost, term and exact coverage?

It is from Ford, and gives me 2 yrs/40 000 km for $2000 in addition to the three years bumper to bumper that came with the car. It continues the original coverage but I still pony up for "consumables" fluids, brake pads, clutch etc. The other option is 4 yrs /80k for $3000.

It couldn't be that certain vehicle makers actually design less reliable parts and materials into their vehicles so that many ppl buy into their expensive extended warranty programs??

Na, didn't think so...

Ovr, you are SO cynical.

$2000 for 2 extra years? Says something about how reliable Ford thinks the car is! The same additional coverage for a Corolla is $999 - list price.

You're KIDDING, right?  $2000 for 2 years/40K?

Still, if you're stuck with a Ford, it could be worthwhile.

HOLY CRAP is that expensive.  When I bought my MB, they charged me $1300 to extend the warranty from 4/80K bumper-bumper to 7/160 bumper-bumper.  I know that was eight years ago, but...
No place I'd rather be...

The retail price on that warranty is less than $1400.

That same extra warranty on my new '05 Highlander would cost $1299 from Toyota. I think $2000 is awfully high and probably has been marked up by the dealer.

With my recent purhase of an 05 Pontiac Vibe I debated getting the extended warranty. The car comes with a basically 'bumper to bumper' 3 year 60 k. And a extra 2 years on the powertrain...it caused some thinking...is it worth paying approximately 1500 more (with taxes) to go from 3 to 6. It may give peace of mind but it likely isnt a good use of money. If there wasnt the limited powertrain I think the decision would be a no brainer...go for it  But with the extra built in coverage I dont think so.

Having said all that I got it; all because of the bad experiences I have had with my 2000 Montana. Nothing like a personal experience to counteract common sense ;)
