Key stuck in ignition
« on: June 21, 2005, 04:26:03 pm »
My car is a 2001 Accord V6 automatic with 64000k. A few days ago after returning home and turning off the motor, I was unable to get the key out of the ignition. I can start and turn off the motor but the key will not come out of the ignition. The key is what Honda calls the valet key which I only use occasionally but this should make no differnce. Any thoughts on what I might do to get it out?

Alfredo Welcome to the Forum, sorry to hear of your problem. I would suggest visiting your local Accord Dealer as he will be aware of the type of problems and design of this switch. Probably fairly simple for them to pull the switch and repair the tumblers if required.

Not 100% sure on this, but I believe there was a recall on Honda's ignition switches a few months ago... something to do with being able to pull out the key even when the transmission wasn't set in the park position. It *might* have something to do with your situation. Definitely check out with your dealership, they'll know what is going on!

Sounds like the shift-lock linkage cable.  If there is a recall on this, then you definitely want to get the dealership to look at it.
Suck, squeeze, bang, blow - who wouldn't love the internal combustion engine?  ;D
