Too much oil

I have changed oil many times AS.  I pull the cork out and wait for the black fluid to drain like most folks do I guess.  How am I doing so far? The black stuff (oil?) stops flowing after about 30 seconds and can drip for up to three weeks according to some.( folks on this forum excluded of course)  I know a guy who ties a piece of sponge onto a hanger and runs it up inside the pan to get every last drop, just to be sure.  Do I need to get that last few dops of oil out?  Not me, as I live life on the edge.  I have taken apart a few engines and have yet to see a restrictor plate installed on any of the oil journals or passages.  I also think that after about 30 seconds oil at operating temp will find its way into the sump.
Do you have a special car that holds onto its oil in a secret spot, just waiting to drain after getting the one minute signal from the pan? :-)
To nit pick the process of changing oil and the time it takes could go on for hours.  You do what you want, I'll do the same.  I would think that some readers on this site will appreciate the difference of opinion regarding this matter and see thru some of the finer points.

Now what? ;)
I miss my motorcycle!

Hey Skypoint... make sure your car is on 99.9% level ground when you check the oil.  My car was on a slight incline when I checked once and it looked like it had no oil in it.  I moved it to level ground waited 10 minutes and everything was good.

Sounds very similar to a sewage injector I recently had the pleasure of fixing.

My Vanos in my Bimmer is oil driven and takes quite a while to fully drain.  Also I mentioned GMs 6.2 and alternate 6.5 turbo diesel.  They will hold a litre for a good ten minutes in the heads and take forever to drain.

What about the GM models that have a qt of oil in the rad like Caddi with this system. They drain when you pull the oil filter as there's a check valve to release the oil from the rad into the pan when you drop the oil filter. These take a little longer but as I know this my cars get to drain longer then normal. I like to get as much out as possible. Those 6.5 GM Diesels engines have 300HP so there's nothing wrong with them as far as I am concerned and most owners can do quite a bit of maintenance on them. They are somewhat owner friendly.
