I am looking for opinions on the BF. Gooderich Radical TA tire. Has there been any recent problems with the side walls failing at all?  The particular size is 235x15" which I am interested in especially.

Are these tires on your pick'em up truck, Barrie1?  Just curious.

How about some Incontinentals?
Suck, squeeze, bang, blow - who wouldn't love the internal combustion engine?  ;D

Had the right front blow right out on the 401 on Sunday at a fair clip of speed. I was in launch off of the cloverleaf at Union Rd outside of Sheddon Ont. when it blew the entire sidewall right out of the tire. These are Brand New Tires that only $9.00 wear on exchange for a replacemnt tire. The valve stem was not even in the rim when I got it stopped, very strange as they are the real good race ones not the standard rubber ones. This is the 1st problem I have seen on this Brand or size. Anybody else have a bad experience with this as I am curious. They have served me well so far but this makes you wonder. Yes this was on the truck and the Billet wheel is OK. That could have really hurt bending that.

The fact that the valve was not in the rim makes me think the problem was the valve and the sidewall condition was the result of running the tire flat.

I was moving about 80MPH at the time and actually suspect the same thing. I have never seen a valve stem be removed out of a tire rim without a darn good reason. The entire sidewall was slit where the tread joins the sidewall about 1" from the tread pattern. Almost a perfect cut like with a sharp knife or something but wasen't. I have never heard a bad thing about these tires yet but it sure gives doubts in your mind when it happens. The last time this type of thing happened was 2 years ago and it was a Perelli Tire that let go on one of my cars. It sure changes the perception of your safety when you buy good products and have a failure like this. Still like the Radial TA's but am concerned for the future. This is why I raised this thread.

Your description of the way the tire failed is EXACTLY what you get with a "Runflat" - 2 sidewalls and a tread and the tread is cleanly detached right where the sidewall transitions into the tread - some call this area the butress.

So I really think the problem was the valve.  I've seen valves get damaged during mounting the valve by pulling on them too hard or at a sharp angle.  I've also seen valves have molding defects right where they seat in the hole.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Capri as I suspect the valve was damaged where it seats into the rim. Thankfully its something that we don't see too often for everybodys sake.

They have  been really good on the traction factor unless I really dump the loud pedal. I have spun a whole 1/4 mile and was still lit at the traps.  This probably was a rare occurence I believe, the tire blowing out the way it did.
