$9999 2005 cars
« on: June 12, 2005, 12:30:42 pm »
Hi everyone,

Just looking through The Star auto section and I have been seeing a few ads for some new 2005 cars for $9999. I saw a Pontiac Sunfire and a Dodge Neon (SX 2.0) and a Hyundai Accent. Just curious to know which car would you buy? The Sunfire or Neon or Accent?

If all of them are the same price, its pretty obvious the answer is Accent.

I would recommend/buy the Sunfire, it's a proven car that has been around for a long time.  You'll get a better ride and almost as good fuel economy, insurance should be cheaper as the Accent is on the most stolen vehicle list.

Why would people steal Accents?
It doesn't have high resell value, it's not fast, it's not attractive looking.
Or is it just because it's easy to steal?

I would either opt for the Accent or a lightly used Echo.  In fact, the $10K mark has some decent used cars that would be a better choice despite no warranty coverage.  The depreciation on the $10K new car should be light given it's low starting point, but the GM products are so old and have so many known trouble spots, I would not take on that much trouble.
No place I'd rather be...

I liked my Accent and like the Hyundais I've had experience with in general, so the Accent would be #1 for me.

But since most people claim they want reliability and buy instead on room or power, 2nd choice is the Cavalier/Sunfire. For many, this would be the 1st choice, but I like the Hyundai quality and fuel economy. And I prefer hatches.

Distant 3rd is SX 2.0, which I wouldn't buy at all. I'd buy any number of used cars before I'd spend on that thing.

I'm assuming the Accent referred to is the standard 3-door model, not the 5-door?

I am skeptical of that article. None of those cars have a $9999 price tag according to this web site:

2005 Hyundai Accent Trim Lines
GS 3-Door Manual 5 Speed $12,995 + $615 destination

2005 Dodge SX 2.0 Trim Lines
Base 4dr Sedan Manual 5 Speed $15,605 + $1,000 destination

2005 Pontiac Sunfire Trim Lines
SL 2dr Coupe Manual 5 Speed $16,230 + $930 destination

You can get them all for that. MSRP doesn't mean much nowadays on certain carlines.

Probably a Lancer as well!

Having had personal experience with a 1996 Sufire which was a very good car to our family until it was totalled in a head-on accident I would buy another one again if we had the need for a smaller car. This car took a head on at 50MPH and My Daughter walked away from it with only a few bruises on one knee and a sore face from where the airbag hit her. The left front wheel was touching the windshield at the end of it but the cabin was in perfect shape. The 2.2 engine was a great little motor which was very good on fuel as well as being extremely dependable for the 4 years we had it. Never had 1 problem with that car except one ride strut failure which was caused by a road in Michigan and it was under warranty so there was no cost involved.

Drove passed a Chrysler dealer during rush hour home. I saw SX 2.0 advertised at $10995 instead of $9995.

Probably a cash purchase value.
Sometimes, the problem with your car is in between the steering wheel and the seat.

If asking $9995. is giving them away then you sure don't know your math very well just like you have no knowledge of this car. I give you a 1 star for that great amount of knowledge you have just displayed again Snack.
