Rough Idle
« on: June 06, 2005, 05:37:31 pm »
At 34,000 miles, my otherwise perfect 2002 Limited Toyota Highland, automatic 2 wheel drive, developed a leak in the rear main seal while still under warranty.  The dealership dropped the transmission, repaired the seal, returned it two days later with a gear shift linkage problem and clicking and vibration in the steering column.  Ever since these repairs, my car has never run the same.  The gearshift still feels wrong but mainly the car now idles really rough at stops in Drive (noticeable vibration throughout the car; especially in the steering column).  Putting it into neutral or park resolves the problem.  What would the recommended fix be……and do I dare take it back to the incompetent shop that created the problems for their resolution? (It's been several months and now out of warranty.)}

I think that you should go back to the original (a Toyota dealer I assume) and have it out with them.  Depending on the vehicle lots of things get removed to pull a transmission.

You should have never let this go past 30 days. An obvious place to start is the drive shaft area.

Get the service manager involved;take him for a drive so that he/she understands the problem.
Still no good;call Toyota Canada and speak with them.
Sounds like a tech made a mistake here and something is loose or mis-aligned during the repair.
It happens so try to get them to step up and make it right for you.
