Mitsubishi Galant review
« on: June 01, 2005, 06:03:09 pm »
Here's a great review of the Galant GTS.

It's not often that I become emotionally attached to a car, but at the end of my test week I was honestly sad to return it. Why? Because of its high-class interior with incredibly comfortable leather seats front or rear (heated in front), lean and mean exterior and superb handling; what more could one ask for?

I stopped when I read: I find its athletic styling to be much more appealing than that of the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Volkswagen Passat.

There goes her credibility... no need to continue reading after that!

The Galant on paper has what it takes to compete.  However, I don't think everybody has really warmed out to it's odd styling.  Probably why it's not selling well...plus you add to it the history of recall coverup, poor financial situation, and risk of Mitsubishi leaving this market will make any buyer jittery.

The one thing in my mind when browsing the article was there isn't a mention on where this car was better than the other competitors or features that this car had that was missing from others.

Anoter funny part: Each Mitsubishi I drive is made with high quality materials, is cleanly finished and possesses the unique and memorable
styling that makes its cars a cut above the rest.

Styling is subjective, ok sure... but high quality materials and cleanly finished? Has she sit in an 2004 Eclipse, Outlander or Montero?!? Mitsubishi have amongst the worst interiors on the market IMO. Maybe they're improving them, but when I went to a Mitsu dealership last year, they were incredibly cheap, with very cheap plastics everyone and boring designs that felt were dating from 15-20 years ago.

It's reviews like this that make you wonder how much they've been paid by the company to write a favorable review... You know, the kind of review where they vaguely say it's the best car you can buy, that it bests everything else on the market, everything is perfect, but yet, doesn't get into concrete details about what the hell she's talking about.

Galant only has 4-speed auto in a market which will soon have 6-speed doesn't help much neither.

Its alright for the 4 cylinder but they at least need a 5 speed auto for the 6 cylinder.

Okay Mitsu_fan...really...you gotta stop...your out of control...seriously.  If there's such a thing as Mitsubishi rehab you've gotta go...I'm calling for an Intervention..anyone else on the board want to join me?  it's like crack for you, put the pipe down and test drive a Porsche or something...  Were here to help...I'm worried for you when the new Eclipse arrives...I'm concerned you might spontaneously combust form joy when you read the first positive review...

My neighbours down the street have just bought a new Galant and they love it. They think it's great. They probably would say the same things about the car as she did in the article.

BUT, the traded in their Plymouth Breeze for the Galant, so I don't know, it seems pretty much anything would seem great after driving a Breeze for 5 years...

Mitsu_Fan, I may be able to help. I used to do therapy for Subaru fans over on the Edmunds site. My rates are good (substantial incentives) and I offer the best warranty in the business. Of course, I may go out of business at any time (sorry, just couldn't resist!).

That "review" reads like something from Mitsubishi's ad agency.  The whole article doesn't ring true.

Something about the way it's written, it seems like the author had a list of features to include, and then, as an afterthought, "oh yes, need something negative"...

I wonder what the rest of you think; I neither like nor dislike Mitsubishi's cars, but there is something about the article that sets off my BS detector.

I know what you mean Tenpenny. I often get that impression. Further, it has been widely reported (whether true or not) that if a reviewer/mag pans a car, they often have a hard time getting more from that manufacturer.

The other reason I don't pay too much attention to car reviews is that they say nothing about reliability of how the beast is to live with every day. It may be GREAT to drive the new BUZZ 16 for a week, but having to take it to work, drive the kids to practice, go shopping - UGH! Reliability and dayly driving comfort/ease are prime to me as I can't afford 6 different vehicles.

Av I'm sure the Galant would meet your "basic" needs quite easily and be reliable enough too...had two previous iteration Galants (aka Dodge GTX 2000's) '89 &'91...served me well and reliably..can't see why their staid newer models won't be as RELIANT!!!.......6 Cars ONLY..what a Piker.....

From "The Economist" of May 28/05:
"Mitsubishi Motors posted a net loss of $4.4 billion for the year ended March 31, more than double the loss it made the previous year. The number of vehicles sold in both Japan and North America fell by around a third as Mitsubishi's brand image declined amid further accusations that the company covered up safety defects."

Kind on makes one wonder how long the parent Mitsubishi Corp. will put up with this situation. Not too long I'd wager.

Hey guys, I often see Auto123 links posted here, and while they offer great reads for the most part, they are the direct competitor to this site. I know that the powers at be at Auto123 would be happy to see them on here, but has anyone ever asked Grant what he thinks?

Good point, bigbad, on many other sites that kind of cross-posting is not allowed. Policing it is a problem here for Grant, I suspect; but I can see where Grant&co. may not care for it. If there was Moderators, such posts could be deleted as they are made. ??

I think they are fine with posting links from the various manufacturer sites, but when they are actual reviews it kind of muddies the waters.
