Ran across some old pics at the cottage this weekend. Twenty-eight years ago my Sister Carol was driving around in this 1971 Datsun 240Z. I bought it from her I think a year after this picture was taken and replaced the front fenders, rear quarters and front valence, upgarded the wheels and tires then painted it in a charcoal metalic. I have another slide around here of it completed that I need to scan yet.
This car had an Ansa exhaust on it and made a wonderful noise that only in-line six cyclinders can.
Sisters Carol (on the left) and Dr. Laura posing. (both now in the 50's!)

Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos?

Back in 1971 (or was is 1970) I worked at Allstate Insurance, after graduating from highschool.  I remember being shown  the insurance premium for a new Datsun 240 Z,  and  laughing  at someone paying  $3,000 for a Japanese car.  How times have changed!

I well remember this model of car as they are highly sought after still. They have held their value quite well and have also been used for a no. of Hotrodding purposes. Friends of mine put a 454 with twin 4's on it into one. It certainly changed the dynamics of the car.

And I was just starting to think that boys weren't all that stinky, after all...

What a wonderful, expressive photo, Railton.  Very evocative of the time.  Nice car, too.  Thanks.

I was living in Houston, Tx in 1978 and had a '78 Grand Prix and a '78 911SC Targa.

Thanks for posting the old pix, Rail. Wish I had a scanner as I have some old ones also.

@ ALL the comments in here!

Is Ansa the original 'fart can' exhaust?

Railton, Brig is right-on. When I looked at the photo I thought " 'wow'... they're nearly my age... and in their 50's now... look at the styles of them and now classic car... now's the time to live life and enjoy it". People sometimes have a tendency not to like photos being taken of themselves, but it's later on when you're glad you have them.

It's fascinating to see the history of the cars people have owned and road they've taken to get where they are.

Siraqua, ANSA and Stebro are the grand-daddy fart can manufacturers. I think Ferrari and Lamborgini use them as standard pieces on their work. They're likley 50 year old companies now. I think there was another sport exhaust manufacturer called Arbarth as well.

Rail - right about Stebro - I put a Stebro exhaust on my 1970 BMW2002 and it was loud. I got a noise ticket with it quite promptly after I got it!! . Abarth and Ansa were around then also.

Had a Stebro on my 1969 Mini Cooper.  Lost it on the gravel road going to Long Beach, on the west coast of Vancouver Island.  Any of you old west-coasters remember when the road to Long Beach was gravel and you could camp/drive on the beach?  Great times!

I remember that it was gravel but I don't recall ever driving it then. I don't think I got to Long Beach until about 1988 or so (it was long paved by then). Still a bit of a fun road as long as there are no trailers and other assorted hippie slowpokes on it...
