Bye bye Maxima
« on: May 26, 2005, 02:18:36 am »
Hey fellas, been a while since I posted here.

Well we got rid of the Maxima I financed for my dad. It gave him some terrible heart pounding moments during the winter. The torque steer was too much of an annoyance for him. The gas bill wasnt pretty either since he drives a lot.

So we decided to talk to the dealership and see if anything could be arranged. They gave us a great deal with just about no money lost on something much more tame. An '05 Altima 2.5SL.

Im not a fan of the strange sounding engine, but the 4 cylinder is a really balanced design as far as ride and power is concerned. Honestly I prefer S60s in that size of a car, but parents prefer the Altima.

Heres she is next to my car:
Enlightenment.  The air smells sweeter.  Birds sing more cheerfully.  Sex is better.  Life is good with a manual transmission.  - GD, 2009

I love what Nissan did with the headlights for 2005.  Such small changes made it look aggressive.

my buddy has the 3.5SE. Nice car with a great engine. But i guess like the maxima, torque steer would be an issue on brisk accelerations.

Nice rides Von…..A neighbor of mine has a new Maxima and is not impressed with the torque steer as well. He is now looking at a G35 but is concerned about taking a big hit on the trade.

The darkened headlight surround looks great to me too.

They did the same thing on Protege5 with similar effect. Makes a difference.

Both the 6 and Alt look good, but in different ways. Alt is more chunky, 6 lower and smoother.

You have 2 best-looking Japanese family sedans on the market, also the sportiest!

Not so fast A4_tom.....if you talk about sportiest and best looking you must include:
LGT
In that group.

"best looking" is subjective... Anything with hood scoops on it looks stupid IMO.

I like the scoops. Legacy sedan looks better than Mazda6 sedan depending on trim level, but I like the 6 hatch and wagons of both.

Altima would rank 3rd for me.

Thanks guys.

Yeah them Legacy sedans are pretty sweet too.

But given the choice of a MPS6, I'd got for that over a Legacy GT any day. Something about that new mazda look just gets me.

To me, hood scoops looks stupid if they don't do anything.  If they are functional, then I don't care.  Much better than the under bumper IC that gets messed up with rocks, debris, not to mention accidents.

I find the Acura TL to be the best looking Japanese sports sedan right now.
MPS6 looks like a bloated tuna what with the bulbous hood. And I highly doubt that design is gonna be as efficient as the turbo subaru's hood scoop design.

Agree Snowman, the new Legacy is one of the best looking Japanese car out there.  I like the hood scoop, I like even more the reason why it's there!

I followed an Altima SER on my way to work last night. The SER trim really enhances an already attractive car.
IMO, the Legacy's facelift improves its looks dramatically. It has become average. Styling is largely subjective, but I always figured if I bought any Subie, it wouldn't be for the looks.

Fack….I drive a bug-eyed WRX…..looks were the last thing on the list. The LGT is much more conservative and more importantly……. stealthy. If you spend $2k on an ECU flash, up-pipe, and down-pipe you will have a +300 hp awd wolf in sheep’s clothing.

There is a black Altima SER at Northern Nissan here in Sudbury. It is an awesome looking car. A friend of mine traded in this 2003 GTP for a 3.5 SL and just loves it. He is amazed at the difference in quality and performance of the 3.5 vs. the GTP.

Believe it or not, the SER is slower than the regular 3.5 SE. Thanks in part to weight of the 6spd, larger rims/tires, brakes and other stuff. 10hp increase will not compensate for the extra heft!

Yep….mounting those monster 18’s on will add substantially to the unsprung weight. The less work the shocks and springs have to do to keep the tires in contact with the road over bumpy surfaces. This is added weight will reduce the handling abilities and the addition of lighter aftermarket wheels will help.
