What a nice vehicle!

Anyone has an idea how much the ML320 CDI will sell for? Has to be somewhere between the ML350 ($55,750) and the ML500 ($75,300), right? Hopefully closer to the ML350, or even slightly cheaper than it.

Right now, I don't see any better options than a 3 year old (lease return) ML320 CDI certified vehicle to complement my Jetta in 4-5 years... Seems to be the perfect size, great power output from its diesel engine, and its fuel economy with the diesel engines is amazing for such a big and heavy vehicle.

The E320CDI is more than the E320 and less than the E500, but BARELY less than the E500.  Options are killers, too.

We had a 1998 E300 turbo and thought about replacing it with the W211 E320CDI.  The E300 was about $62K new in 98 with some goodies, and the comparable E320CDI was over $80,000.

The CDI MB's are not a bargain...
No place I'd rather be...

ouch that sucks John... Hopefully the ML320 CDI will be closer to the ML350 than the E320 CDI is to the E320...

The diesel does have a fair good amount of extra torque compared to the 3.5L though...

I suppose those ML320 CDI won't be selling at 50% of the their MSRP within 3-4 years like I was hoping.

Depends on how rare the CDI's end up.  The W210 E-Class turbo's really hold their value.  We sold our six year old E300 for a staggering 74% of the new price.  The 98 and 99 diesels are rare and unless they're super-high mileage, sell at a premium.  Or, at least they did when we sold ours...

If you want one of these I suggest you go to your dealer A.S.A.P. Benz only allocates so many vehicles to Canada and the ML sells well here so expect them to be in short supply as that engine is coming from Europe and not the plant in Alabama.
They can do a veh search for you on M/B Net to check avail.incld colour and options.

Nissparts, I'm only talking about 4-5 years down the road, I bought my Jetta 3 months ago... and there is no way that I'd buy any Mercedes brand new... way too freaking expensive! I'll take a 3-4 years old certified vehicle for close to 50% off instead.

Missed that sorry; but I still suspect that they will be in short supply;the Canadian market is somewhat resistant to diesels and we never sold a ton of them at when I worked at Benz.
Serviced lots of the older ones but very few ppl have learned to appricate the advances in diesel technology and tend to stay away.

ML looks quite pleasing from the outside - nice and sporty, while also more SUV-like and defined/masculine. The exception is the base model with some black trim and non-tinted windows, which looks rather cheap to me.

Apparently the drive and engines are great. The price is right on. Nothing to really complain about.

At least this time when they sell a dime a dozen, they'll deserve it. I certainly frowned upon the old ML and still can't understand it's appeal.

The appeal of the old ML? How about being the only true luxury SUV on the market at the time? People with money wanted a SUV to complement their 5-Series and their E-Class... that's exactly what the ML offered.

Think the RX 300 actually beat the ML to market and was a better SUV overall, with far better quality.

But even as years passed, the ML still sold well.

The ML moved well thanks to leasing, but they came back at lease end in droves.  It really killed resale, and that means that an ML is a decent used buy.  You can pick up a 2000/2001 in the very low $20K's with low miles and in good condition.  The ML was improved greatly in 2000, but still lagged behind the RX in terms of quality.

If the new ML has improved quality, I guarantee that the CDI version will hold it's value the best of the models.  It will be in low volume and have an appeal to MB enthusiasts.

Personally, I never really saw the appeal.  They don't have much more room than a car, suck gas compared to the V-6 sedans (thanks to 1200 extra pounds) and don't drive as nice as the E-Class they're based on.  But, people like the idea, and right now Lexus' volume seller is the RX330 and Mercedes has to have competition.  The ML320CDI will be a super alternative to the RX400h Hybrid.

Well it looks good and much better than the older version. I would be tempted, or could be, but still topping over around $65 for a fairly well equipped vehicle is more than I would like to spend. It weighs in at 4800 pounds too so the diesel would be a good choice.

RX400h already have a 6-month waiting list, ML320CDI shouldn't be too far behind if it makes over here.
