BG Goodrich G-Force KDW
« on: May 24, 2005, 11:05:20 pm »
I have been considering getting the BG Goodrich G-Force KDW for my 2000 Civic SiR. Has anyone had any experience with these Tires? They don’t make these tires in my exact size of 195/55-15. I have factory Honda 7 spoke Aluminum rims. I assume they are at least 6” wide. I see the rim sizes for that tire are 5.5 to 7.5 so they should work. Anyone have any advice on this?  Also I was wondering what tire size would be best since they don’t have my exact size. I was thinking the 205/55-15. My speedometer reading would be 1.8% slow with those tires. The 205/50/15 my speedometer would be 1.6% too fast. Is one way preferable to the other?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Curtis

KDW has been getting some really good reviews. We generally sub the 205/50/15 for the 195/55/15. It is slightly smaller, but very close. Also seems to be a very popular tire with the tuning shows..a la Overhaulin and Rides. Looks great and performs.

Thanks for the response. I had a few more questions about the size you suggest. If a get the slightly smaller tire when I am traveling 100km/h I actually will be going about 98km/h. If I want to actually go 100km/h will my car’s rpm be higher than they were on the factory tires? Maybe I just being silly, but with gas prices these days. I suppose I could go with the Yokohama AVS ES100. They seem to be the only company to high performance tires in my factory size of 195/55-R15.

If you really want to go to a 205, the 50-series is definitely the way to go. I can't imagine you'ld ever notice a difference in fuel economy. The worn-out 195/55s you've got on there now may very well be smaller than new 205/50s would be anyway.

I've got a '99 SiR, and have been happy to stick with 195/55s on the stock rims. Kumho 712s for me, but Hankook also makes a V-rated tire in that size that is supposed to be a decent performer. As you mentioned, the AVS ES 100 is also a good value. If you really want to go nuts, look into the new Toyo T1-R. It's also available in a 195/55R15.

There's other choices in that size as well, but the above four are the ones I'd be considering.

Now that you mention Kumho, those Ecsta SPT look too good to be true at that price. $110.51 Each in my size. With a 320 AA A rating. I guess they are too new for anyone to have reviewed yet.

Hmm, I hadn't noticed that the SPTs were available in a 195/55R15. If I needed new tires right now, I'd probably take a gamble on those.

At that price, why don't you just spring for a set and let us all know how they work out?

If you go stock size you will not notice any difference in the RPMs. Go to the 205/50/15 and it is slightly shorter, but you probably wont notice any difference as it is minor. If you want to go straight summer performance the options listed are good. T1-R would be one of the better, but a little more pricey. We do have a rebate of $100 until the end of May, so it brings the price down $25/tire. If that is a little pricey the SPT would be a great alternative. New, so not many reviews, but from what we have seen so far looks to be improvement on the 712.

Thanks for all the advice. I ordered the Toyo T1-R's today. I could not pass it up with the rebate on them. I will let you know how they are.
