2006 Toyota Corolla & Camry
« on: May 24, 2005, 08:48:43 am »
Hi,  I am asking for a friend.  Is there going to be a totally new design Toyota Corolla or Camry for 2006?  If not, does anyone know when will they be introduced?

thanks,

Citydude

Since the Camry is a pretty new design, I doubt it will be replaced for 06.  The Corolla is only three model years old, so again I doubt it will be replaced.  Perhaps 07 for a new Corolla?
No place I'd rather be...

Corolla will be redesigned nd released very early in 2007 if they stick to a 5 year cycle. Rumour has it the Camry is being moved up from Fall '06 to Spring '06 launch.

Corolla will be redesign along with the rest of the world, instead of seperating like the previous 2 iterations. If the info from JDM is correct, new Corolla will debut in about a year.

they may do the early release of the Corolla as well to combat the all new 2006 Civic coming this fall

Japanese are really in a rush lifespan to counterattack the impressive Koreans. They don't even have enough time to check their shoulders now.

before we anoint Hyundai as the next Toyota or Honda, let's see how the build quality of the American made Sonata is... they may experience some teething pains with their first factory in the U.S., they had dreadful results when they were building in Quebec back in the early 90s...

Yes Hyundai has narrowed the gap between themselves and the Japanese. However the used car market is a good judge of the confidence  people have in one's product, and right now a used Hyundai (or Kia) has resale value comparable to Chrysler and Ford (read:not good). This can hurt a manufacturer even if their current crop of cars is substantially better, as the market's perception takes 5 years to catch up to the actual build quality of today's cars.

As far as I'm concerned, until Hyundai has 10-15 years of excellent reliability under its belt, I won't consider them on the same level as Toyota or Honda. Let's see how those Tucsons and Sonatas will stand up in 7-8 years from now...

As far as I'm concerned, the Hyundais have my money over a lot of the competition. After owning them, I'd say the quality is quite good and only improving.

I'd take that Sonata over the Accord.

Toyota and Honda should be priming for a serious attack from Hyundai.  Hyundai's new US ads are all over "US job creation" and "$1.1 Billion investment in US production."

With the new Sonata being made in the good 'ol U, S, of A, they are creating a serious weapon for going up agains the Accord and the Camry.  People in the US have been very sensitive to point of manufacture and this move is beyond smart.  Honda and Toyota have already shown that US auto workers are among the best in the world, with their Camry and Accord models never showing a drop in quality.  This convinced me that GM/Ford/DC's qulaity problems have nothing to do with workers, but everything to do with management and design.

Something tells me the "Big Three" are about to be Toyota, Honda and Hyundai.

You are all missing the next automaker to come to North America. They're not Korean or Japanese but Chinese. (Chery I think there called)

It will take a lot of car to hurt Camry and Accord sales, the only way for the Sonata for now is price.  This car is unproven and it's not everyone who will jump ship when they have been exceptionally satisfied with the 3-4 Camry/Accord they have owned over the years, these owners are amongst the most loyal out there.  Don't get me wrong Sonata will do as well or better with this one, of course they could be subjected to growing pains building a car in America.  IMHO they will  seriously hurt the NA sales no doubt.

turbodiesel - yeah that would be a splendid idea. with the success of the kia/hyundai 5 dr vehicles Toyota should really look into it. The body style is popular everywhere else and it doesnt look too shabby either

Hyundai has been around for a long while. 80s? But only recently have they really made a dent in the North American market. So what gave rise to this? japanese imports too expenive plus the perceived low quality and recognition of domestic products?
