Fluid for a Acura Manual Trany
« on: May 21, 2005, 12:54:56 pm »
I just bought a 1996 Acurra Integra off a freind it has a lot of miles on it but it is great shape. I want to change the trany (manual)fluid.  I seem to remember someone recommending using Synthetic 10w-30.  In the manual is says to use only the Honda stuff.  Which is better? It does not seem to hold too much so I don't think cost will be an issue.  Thanks for thr help.

I wish I have my Q.S. manual handy but it's packed in a box...somewhere....LOL
Check with a jobber or dealer for fluid specs.
I can't think of any M/T that I have seen using
eng oil and Honda is famous for being different.
Be careful.

Check with the dealer.... it may possibly even be ATF that goes in it.

The geartrains in transmissions tend to eat engine oils...the only one I can remember was the original mini shared its 20w-50 1960's treacle with the engine and transmission
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Check with the dealer. Manual transmissions can have all sorts of lubes. Some take any GL4 oil. Some take 10w30 engine oil, some take ATF and with those it may be specific on which type of ATF is used.

Definitely replace it with the correct factory spec oil. You could really do a lot of damage if you don't use the correct grade.
