So the faux pickup wont sell eh.

Honda to increase Ridgeline production

Las Vegas, Nevada - Honda of Canada Manufacturing has increased the daily input of its new Ridgeline pickup truck, according to a report released by the Specialty Equipment Manufacturing Association.

Originally projecting 53,000 vehicles for fiscal year 2006, Honda is now reported to be on track to build 80,000 Ridgelines annually. The Ridgeline is the first four-door pickup to earn the U.S. government's highest crash test rating for frontal and side-impact crashes.

If Honda is not going to increase capacity, they will lost lots of customers when some of them are impatient of waiting.

I don't think they'll lose a lot of customers, I'd think a lot of customers will wait their for their Ridgeline.

The increase in production will just get customers into their new truck faster.  The increase was to be expected.

they were probably being cautious with their estimate both for production sake and also not knowing what consumer response was going to be like. Now that the Ridgeline has gotten some really good press and they have the production capacity, (with the Odyssey moved to Alabama) 80,000 for North America should mean Canadian allocations increased from the original 3500 to somewhere near 6000...

Saw another black Ridgeline yesterday in a parking lot. The owner tinted the windows, added a toneau cover... It looked gorgeous! I'm liking it more everytime I see it!

Unfortunately the Honda accessory tonneau is $2K!!
And it is not easily taken off once installed which eliminates a lot of the functionality of a truck bed. With the 9 cubic foot in-bed trunk and the hollow space under the rear seats most people would find that is sufficient lockable watertight storage without a tonneau.
Aftermarket ones will be available soon I would think.

I'm still not sure about the front end treatment of the Ridgeline.  Looks odd but it's not offensive.  I don't think a tonneau cover nor tinted windows would change my view of it.  I like it, but it's not a Miss Universe contestant.

I guess Honda figures the truck is so different from every other truck on the market, may as well make it look very different too. The box rails that taper down make it look very chunky and purposeful. The grille is pretty aggressive, they knew some people would question the "real truck" thing, at least in looks it makes no mistake about it, it ain't a girly man truck... Their marketing is geared completely towards male buyers, they told us they didn't expect to sell any real quantities to female buyers.

Yep….this is Wiffy’s next vehicle. She has given the green light to start looking for a deal as she was very impressed with the test drive last week. The base model is the only way to go. Nine months to go on the Highlander and she is impatient and wants it for summer. I have our resident automotive broker on the case…..see what happens.

Honda is changing the design of the hard tonneau cover to address the issues. A soft cover is the way to go for practicality. You never know when you will have to haul an oversized load when far from home.

That's great new Snowman. What color is your wife's interested in? Also, just out of curiosity, for what reasons does she want to get the Ridgeline instead of a Pilot or another Highlander? I suppose carrying gardening and other supplies from Home Depot?

Honda hit the bull's eye with the Ridgeline.  To me, the styling is 'over the top' and borders on 'Aztek' ugly.  The front end looks strange, and I don't like the way the top of the bed drops from the back window to the tailgate.  Having said that, I'd still buy one, because it's exactly what I want in a pickup.  Great interior, great safety features, Honda quality,  trunk, two-way tailgate etc. If I needed a heavy duty hauler I'd look at something else, but for light duty it would be near perfect (for me).   I even think they're priced right.

84im... aerodynamics.. the Ridgeline gets better mileage with the gate up than down...thanks to the airflow created by the slanting box rails

Snowy, not sure I understand the Ridgeline being your wife's next vehicle. You were saying about the blandness and utilitarian-ness of the base HL and thinking along the lines of Subie LegGT (which I could understand). Now you say Ridgeline is it? Not that I don't think the RL is a good rig; it's just not what you were talking about and offers the same bland utilitarianism of the base HL. A cross between a truck and a SUV is hardly sportier than the HL? What happen? Or did wifey finally get to vote?
