RX8 VS. RXS
« on: May 19, 2005, 06:54:03 am »
I'M THINKING OF BUYING AN RX8 BUT I HEAR THAT THE RXS IS BETTER N FASTER... BUT I REALLY LIKE THE RX8 BECAUSE OF THE BODY STYLE... BUT WOULD I BE PAYING TO MUCH?  OH AND I ALSO WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S FASTER STOCK AND WHEN ITS SUPPED UP. I HEAR THE RSX HAS 300 HORSEPOWER N THE RX8 ONLY HAS 285 SO DOES THAT MAKE THE RXS FASTER? PLEASE LET ME KNOW

Not to mention the Mazda RX# tend to hold their resale value better than the Honda performance products{Integra, Prelude, RSX, etc}. Also to be considered is the uniqueness of the RX8's engine.

RX-8, without a doubt.  RWD vs. FWD.

'Nuff said.

The car is only as fast as the driver

Sounds like you want a Mustang GT

Dare I say that someone who knows so little about the cars he's looking at also has driving skills to match?  If that's so, a Civic Si would probably be plenty quick and much less likely to keep a relatively inexperienced driver out of the ditch.

I'd wager an RX8 in Smallballer's hand wouldn't last one winter.  A new Stang GT probably wouldn't make it through the summer with out curb rash or a bent rim.

Maritime Storm, have you priced used RSX's or Preludes lately?!  Most 4 year old Preludes in the AutoTrader are still in the $18-24k range... they were less than $30k to start!!!  I'd say they hold their value exceptionally well.

Being a Honda fan and a Mazda believer(they make ya drink COOL_AID!!!)..my decision is reserved as I have never driven ,or ridden in either.
From a purely visual and "dealers LOT" viewing I would lean to the RX8...love the new "Cherry/Black morphing colour(s) on the new Special Edition).
If it was my EASY earned!!! dollars I was plunking down...would want to drive the snot out of them first....can't wait till they become 3 year LEASE returns....can we all sing "Please RE_LEASE me let me Gggooooooooooooo!!!!!!!"..Happy times are here again.......
THERE IS NO CURE FOR "LOTUS"......ONLY TREATMENT.....

RX8 is a cool car and an excellent performer but what would scare me away is the rotory engine. It gets terrible fuel economy and burns oil from day 1. I would worry about the long term durability. I have heard from some that these engines are toast at about 100,000 kms.

It is unique and I give Mazda credit for pushing ahead with this engine type but I think there will be a price to be paid for it uniqueness.

I love cars but my concern for reliability and low operating costs comes 1st before I pick a car.

Even my Audi dreams (as per my quote) are going to be put to the side for these reasons.
Living my BMW dream.

Mazda parts are expensive;espically on small volume production cars such as RX8.
The Rotary is great until it gets tired (100,000km)
and then its off for a re-build ( Mazda has a re-build shop in Ontario).
So for style the RX8 is a beauty but I think you'd want to stay driving your ride not getiing it fixed so buy the Acura.

Personally... I'd rent the RX8 to have fun with it 3-4 years without worrying about reliability... but I'd buy the RSX to keep 7-8 years trouble-free.

And Acura prices, are, inexpensive?  It's been a while since we had an Acura at our home, but other than Porsche, the parts prices were easily the highest of any car we've ever owned, including Mercedes and BMW.

It would be pointless with an auto tranny, Shnak.

IF I were to get an RX8, it would be MY car, not my girlfriend's, so it'd be with a standard transmission, of course.

As a side note, I tried to sit down in a RX8 once and I fit great. Seat is low enough that my head doesn't touch the ceiling. Forget about the RSX though... it's missing about 3" so that I could be confortable in that thing.

John you are right about parts prices;I have found Acura parts a bit steep too but BMW parts and Jag are the worst I have ever seen.
I worked at a Mazda store and I was shocked at some of the prices for stuff.

Should there even be a debate on RX8 vs RSX?
