Was at the auto show, I assume it's already on sale.

But, it's not on the Ford.ca web site. And I haven't seen any sales for it.

Never thought of it. I guess Ford isn't selling it here. Could it be the bumpers are the issue? The whole hood/bumper opening opposite could affect things. I know demand was high in the US would think they'd bring it here.

I asked this question last year right after my Uncle told me about his drive in one of these (point straight, step down with right foot, repeat).

Everybody came back with the answer of no.  Oh well.  I'd say its probably the bumbers as I'm sure they could easily sell a few of these in Canada.  Heck, people buy Lambo's and such.

Not enough die-hard Ford fans in Canada that would be willing to pony up the cash?

Latest Car & Driver article states that Ford is having LOTS of problems with the GT, including cracked suspension control arms and an oil leak caused by an improper finish on the crankshaft.

The Ford rep I spoke with last month told me that the GT won't be for sale in Canada. Apparently there's a problem between Ford and Transport Canada regarding "safety issues".

Transport Canada had a problem with the retro T-Bird,as well. They told Ford not to ship any into Canada with the round driving/fog lights in the bumper since they didn't meet "Canadian standards." Ford had to put plugs in the holes, but the dealers had the lights available for those customers that wanted them for $ 125.

I have also been told it is a crash (or bumper) test issue.

Regarding the T-Bird driving lights, I remember hearing that the lights didn't make it to Canada because the Canadian bumper test takes the dollar value of the repair into consideration and the lights put it over the limit. Now, I have not confirmed this (and haven't thought about it much) but it does make some sense. I can't see how the presence of lights versus  plastic covers could make any difference in safety performance.

An interesting topic for further investigation for sure.

You cannot buy a Ford GT in Canada, but you can buy a replica of the original GT40 . These cars are as original as it gets . CAV Canada in Burlington , Ont. will build you one to order

I read in a US mag that the GT40 was already dead, since not enough sales...

Well, this seems to explain the T-Bird headlights:

"have, during and after each impact in any test described in this section,

(e) each lamp or reflective device, except licence plate lamps, free of cracks and meeting the visibility requirements of section 108 or 108.1, whichever is applicable,"

If you attended the Detroit auto show this January , you could have seen the cutaway Ford GT . It was cut through  verticaly between the seats, front to back.
The castings that hold the suspension were a work of art. They are very large and complex. My buddy remarked that if they were damaged in any way the car would be a write off.
If Ford is having any trouble with them it will be a big job to retrofit any existing cars with new pieces.

The CAV replica GT40 was on display at the Toronto Auto show this year adjacent to the new Ford GT, although they were not side by side , you could see the subtle differences in the cars.
The original is only 40 inches tall !!!! (check your yard sticks) The new car is taller , longer and wider . The shapes are very close to each other.

I drove the car that was on display (the replica not the new car) and it was an unforgetable experience. Sitting inches from the road , over 500hp by your right elbow , Four dual webers roaring , and the "bundle of snakes" exhaust wailing , just awesome to any car nut.

I saw one running in the passing lane during the evening rush hour last summer on Hwy 401 West bound at Milton.  I was in the East bound lane

At first I couldn't believe what I saw, I didn't think there were any GTs in Canada.  Until someone told me it was a replica and there is a company making it in Ontario somewhere.

Although it wasn't an authentic one, but still, seeing one on the road is still cool.  I wonder what are the specs even if it's a replica?

The CAV GT40 is refined version of the original. You have a variety of options from mild street to full race . The cars come with real safety glass ,modern heating and air , etc
They have a composite body built on a stainless steel monocoque chassis .
