Breaking in new wheels
« Reply #20 on: June 22, 2005, 03:55:48 pm »
Hi Ti-Cat,
I have an 03 ZX5 and I drove it 'firmly'(Comment here Saffi, I know you want to...) for the first 5000 kms with an oil change at that point. I use the semi 5w20 that Ford specs the car with and Mobil1 in the winter. The car settled in quite nicely. Incidentally, wait and see what a difference new tires make if you're running the factory Firehawks or Pirellis. I will be putting some FAlken 512s on next year after trying them out in my friend's ZX3. WOW! I hope you enjoy the car.

My 330 took about 25,000 kms to stop using oil. Thats with 5w30 syn from germany for first 8000kms   BMW Canada's  5w-30 syn oil for next 8   and next 8 and the rest.
initial break in was under 4500 rpm for 2000 km but those magic first 1000km were at -20 C with lots of short trips
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
