Rustproofing with the dealer??? Acura EL
« on: May 17, 2005, 10:44:39 pm »
So, I heard the spiel about rustproofing with Acura and how you cannot use a third-party rustproofing due to potential damage to the computers in the undercarriage etc. etc.

Anyone know whether this is all bull****?? Also, I was told that this must be done before delivery. Since I'm picking up on Friday, I need to tell them if I want this by tomorrow. Is it possible to do the rustproofing with Acura later on???

Thanks!

Sterling

Computers in the undercarriage huh?
I haven't heard that one before. Boy those Acuras must use some advanced technology.

I checked the bottom of my MDX....no computers down there.  :-)

That's a new one....skip it....you can get it done anywhere for half the price.

Ya, that is a wopper.  Dealer stuff is BS.  Go Krown Rust Control.

Tell them that you would get them (the dealership) to rustproof the EL, but spirit that lives in your old car advised against it.

Thanks for the advice. I smelled a rat. They also told me that it's a one-time treatment rather than having to go back every year. Can I find a one-time treatment elsewhere?

Everything I've read elsewhere and on this forum points to Krown being the best available.  You have to reapply every year to keep the Krown warranty, but outside of that, I do know that some skip a year.

If any one issue requires a "sticky" this would be it.

Can I find a one-time treatment elsewhere?

It does not exist. If it did the car manufactures would use it.

KROWN every other year would be 100 x more effective.  But Civics are rust prone in the wheel housings from inside out.  That is why the dealer guck is useless.  It does not spread/travel inside body panels.  Once it hits something it acts like a sticky guck.  Stops dead.  Terrible underneath the car for brake lines and fuel lines and murder on electrical connectors.  Dealers make huge profit on this stuff.

A friend of mine bought an Audi TT. The dealer told him that his warranty would be null and void if he took it in for rustproofing since "components might be damaged and the car doesn't need rustproofing".

VW had there hands slapped before for trying to keep customers from going to independant rustproofing shops.

Ziebart has more or less faded into history. Their stuff would harden and gum up window mechanisms and plug up drain holes.Krown and Rust Check is the most recommended these days.

Right on.  Ziebart was the kiss of death to a car.
