1989 Honda Accord brake caliper
« on: May 17, 2005, 02:22:40 pm »
I owe a 1989 Honda accord EXI model and just changed the front passenger brake caliper because the old one was not retracting back, therefore was constantly putting force on the pads and the brake rotor. It seems that the new one is doing the same thing. Is it coinsidental that the new one is not functioning properly or can it be something else like perhaps the master cylinder?

Thanks

The master cyclinder flows fluid to both frt. calipers. Remove it and test it in your hand before you reinstall it.  Guide pins ok?
I miss my motorcycle!

Hi Punisher,
On older cars such as yours it is not uncommon for the inner liner of the brake flex hose to collapse and inhibit the release of fluid pressure when the brake pedal is released.  Simply pump the pedal to build pressure and then release it and 'crack' the flex hose loose at the caliper end.  If it is holding pressure with the brake pedal off the fluid will flow out with some force.  If fluid simply drips out then the hose is not your problem.
If selling and fixing cars were easy, car makers would be doing it.
