Diesel Teaser Daimler 3.0 CRD?
« on: May 13, 2005, 10:32:42 am »
Now I really want one. Please Daimler wake up and stick this in some North American products. It may even make me overlook the new homely Dakota.

"...The Grand Cherokee is also now blessed with a fine range of engines.  In place of the tired old 2.8 CRD comes a new Mercedes-sourced three-litre V6 turbodiesel, which is expected to account for 85 per cent of sales. With 218bhp and 376lb ft of torque, it combines effortless thrust with first class refinement and acceptable fuel consumption (27.7mpg)."

Me wanty.

Isn't the 2.8 CRD the diesel offered in the Liberty here? So we're basically getting a hand-me-down motor instead of the latest diesel tech?

Dammit, I want to move to Europe.

The new 3.0L CRD is replacing the 2.8L  this year. The article describes the 2.8L as archaic.

Stickshift, you want to move to Europe?
Wait till you see the price of your Jeep, the price of gas and the general cost of living there and you'll be happy with the old tired 2.8...

Apperently you are getting wrong information. Grand Cherokee diesel history is renault 2.5L TD 1994-2001, 1999-2002 detroit diesel 3.1L TD I-5, 2002-2004 mercedes 2.7L crd.
http://www.motoring.co.za/index.php?fSectionId=751&fArticleId=231100
It's true that the new 2006 grand cherokee is getting the 3.0Lcrd. But so far it hasn't been anounced which version or both versions. 190hp 425lb-ft/440Nm or the 224hp 376lb-ft/510Nm.
http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102383

As for the 2.8L crd. It's a detroit diesel / VM motor that grew out of the VM 2.5L that was introduced to the cherokee(liberty body) 2003. Previously the cherokee 1994-2001 used a renault 2.5LTD. The VM 2.8L crd started in the european cherokee in 2004. Currently you can by both VM 2.5Lcrd or VM 2.8Lcrd in europe. The US VM 2.8L crd is different than the european VM 2.8L crd. The injection system is different.

As for the MB 2.7L CRD I-5. It's not that old. MB Sprinter got it in 2000 model (1999). So it's just 6 years old and it's being replaced soon with the V-6 3.0L crd 190hp 325lb-ft.
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/9323/sprinter2000.htm#cdi

Note: what I put down earlier was 425lb-ft was a typing error. 325lb-ft/440Nm is correct.

As you know. The 2.7L crd spread throughout the lines. C & E & ML class.

66: So the 2.8L was never in the Grand Cherokee? I just cribbed that whole statement from some British mag. Either way I wthink that 3.0CRD would be a very nice addition to the Dakota/Cherokee/Durango in the N/A market.
