In the old days there used to be 2 speed ratings - S and H.
Then someone invented a car that could run faster than 130 mph, so they invented V. When that wasn't enough they added Z, except that Z was greater than V, but open ended, and size dependent so that a given vehicle could only get Z rated tires.
As time went on, they realized that they needed more speed ratings, so they used the alphabet, except they couldn't undo where the "H" was. Plus they had more vehicles that were faster than V, but didn't need the "Z" (open ended) rating. So technically a "W" or a "Y" could have a "Z" in the size, but most every tire manufacturer wants to put an upper limit in place and not imply more speed capability than the tire really has.
Hope this helps.
