BUYING HELP 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND
« on: May 04, 2005, 03:10:33 pm »
I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME IN IDEA ON WHAT I SHOULD PAY FOR A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND EDITION 4X4 WITH 25K KM, LOADED WITH EVERY OPTION.  IT IS IN LITERALLY PRESTINE CONDITION, MINT.  WHAT TYPE OF PRICE SHOULD I BE LOOKING AT. THE DEALER IS LOOKING TO  GET 29995 + TAXES SO IT WOULD TURN OUT AROUND 34000. IS THAT TOO MUCH? IS SEEMS A BIT HIGH. BUT I LIKE THE LOW KM.

ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS

Well, it's 2 years old, but the kms are low and if it's fully loaded, I would think that Jeep would have been well over $50K new MSRP. Doesn't seem that $30K is too far off. Others on here will have more concrete info hopefully.

PS - turn off the caps, it's hard to read and is considered yelling.

or ironclad extended bumper to bumper warranty.

1.  Make sure it is noted in the contract that this unit is not an ex-rental which I doubt it is.

2.  That is a decent asking price. Yes, the kms are low.  Try getting a fully comprehensive bumper to bumper extended warranty included if they don't budge to much on price.

Too much big money for a car that is not reliable! If the car is always at the garage for repair you must have another able to run.
That describes the bad reputation of Jeep's products.

Just be aware that in two years, that truck is worth less than $20K.  Check out autotrader for 2001's.

For that amount of $$, if you really want an SUV, I would look for a used 2003 4Runner or even a Pathfinder.
At one point I was looking for a Cherroke. But then I start reading...and I changed my mind! I had a Discovery in the past, it has also the bad reputation of being always at the garage and mine was not an exception, it always at the garage too!! I got my lesson...

I was in the same situation one year ago. Then I started looking at this web site. The cars that were often discussed here in a positive way were those made by Subaru. This is what help me to choose a used Subaru Outback as a safe and reliable family car. Take your time and read as much as you can...

What do you want to do with the SUV?  For $30k, you can get some really nice rides in the used SUV market.

Toyota Highlander
Toyota 4Runner
Toyota Sequoia
Honda Pilot
Acura MDX
Mercedes M-class
BMW X5

Xlebyjr i had a 01 Jeep GC Limited with everything on it...i had it for about one year (and put +35K on the odomoter) and didnt have any problem with reliability, only normal maintenance was required and the parts werent very expensive ...

ppl on forums keep saying that Jeeps are POS and even when i came here asking for advice they tried to lurke me away from it...but then i started asking for owners...and got really surprise with their answer: buy one, u'll fall in love!

And thats what i did, i bought one and didnt regret my buy, to a point that i changed my 01 model to the new 05 last fall...and i just love it!!!

So if that GC is in really mint condition (dont forget u still have the warranty in that unit) like u say go and buy it...u wont regret!

Ps.: is it from a Chrysler dealer?

The previous gen GC is a lot harsher in ride and comfort than the other ones that Beluga has listed.  A lot of them are based on a minivan or car platform and will perform better on road.  If you need offroad capability, the Jeep will do you well.  If you're just tooting around on city streets, there are more comfortable used SUV's out there.

The Jeep is from a Mercedes and BMW lot.  Its was a trade in.  My question is, are the Jeep GC bad on gas? I really don't like the option that the 4x4 is always on. My Ford Explorer you were able to switch it on in times of need, which i like.  Thanks

I think the Overland has the V8....will it be bad on gas?  Depends on what you say is bad?  I say it will be.

Yes it likes gaz, 13.5l/100km for the 4l for instance. I do not have the number for the V8, it is a bit more. Driving: very good for people doing a lot of offroad, not the best for highway driving.
