I think it was only few weeks ago tv program about APA investigation. They were checking  a lot used cars dealers in all big cities. The results of investigation are just shocking. For example the  fail rate in GTA area is about 60%    After watching that program I'll think twice before buying a used vehicle. One of the example how the guy was trying to sell Camry 96 with 90K. As turned out it was repainted ex-cab with 500K!
The funny or sad part how the sales rep was trying to explain why there are 4 holes on a dash. He said something about mounting device for odor smell;-)
Anyway APA came to conclusion that buying from a big dealership can't guarantee you that you're buying vehicle that was not in accident or vehicle has the correct odometer reading:-(
I realize that dealers can't know  everything about selling vehicle but they have mechanics thay can check vehicles and identify things not to lie about.

I also saw that program but did you notice all the dealerships were the small lot kind, the kind you see along Kingston Rd, not the big dealerships. I wish they had gone to a big dealership because I would bet that's where most people buy a used car. Then compare the two.

Yes, but then the great "investigative journalists" might have got the negative result they wanted so they could be the big "blow the lid off this business" heros. Excuse me for the cynicism, but most of the media is looking for a "big story". Just my opinion.  

Regardles, everyone knows that most small car lot operators are of dubious reputation anyway.

At the dealership where I work part-time, every used car that is sold is checked by a mechanic prior to the customer taking possession.If anything requires replacement or adjustment,it's done before the car hits the road.
I'll be the first to admit that there are true horror stories about dealerships,but there are also those dealers that want your business again and go out of their way to make sure that the customer's happy.

Amen Blue Oval. Repeat and referrals are what keep people in business, without it you cannot be successful.

i bought my own car from used car dealers in kitchener ontario. i'm good and the dough was okay too. if big dealers do it this way, what more from small dealers? if you're like me who's very excited, i tend to look at a car's feature just once or twice and rely more on the seller's sale talk. wake up call to people like me.

econonyauto.ca  Went to the site.  The cars are junk.  Subprime car lots are the very bottom of the barrel.  However, they make money on the financing despite the high rate of defaults.  Don't ask me how I know this.
