Excuse me for interupting but if I were you I'd wait and have a good look at the Lexus when they're done. That's your hard earned $ you laying out for an auto job.

Actually I had planned on doing that, but not with the Lexus. A lady cop brought her 93' Integra to get it repainted. It's only in the beginning stages, but the rear bumper was taken off. The guy showed me how much rust they found afterwards. Anyways, it takes them about a week or so to complete a car.  Once they finish that car, I will drop by and see the end result.  I think I will have a better idea of how good of a job they would do on an older car with existing rust.
BTW, the shop owner bought a 2002 BMW (I think it's a 5 series) from an auction. The front end was crushed. He bought the car for $23K and fixed the front end and repainted the entire car. I did see it and it looks great. Unfortunately the day that I went there, his car was hit behind the driver side door.  He showed me the dent and none of his paint came off. It was smashed in good and only had the woman's car paint on it.  So, he told me that's how good of a paint job they do, when someone smashes into you and your paint does not come off.
I'm new at all this, but I tend to believe that. Is there any truth to that?

NO.

I think I will have a better idea of how good of a job they would do on an older car with existing rust.

The only way to see how they dealt with the existing rust is to stand there and watch the entire process.  Once it's painted, the rust area is covered up so you won't know till time passes how good a job it was.

Steve, so the last question I asked is not true?

Well, while I would love to hang out with "the boys" and see them in action, I won't be doing that. I guess I'll have to go with my gut?  Which I don't know yet, but I've narrowed it down to these guys and another shop that works mostly on Acura EL's. I called the guy and he told me they repainted a few Integras before.

The shop I pointed you to?  They're actually a GM shop.  The discount is offered by one of their employees through an EL club I discovered while looking for my used EL recently, as well as a VW club, and other clubs too, I'm sure.

Yes, that's the one! I registered on the site, didn't do the discount thing yet, but spoke with the guy and he said the shop makes sure their customers are 100% satisfied before the car leaves the shop. I already been to 3 shops and will probably meet up with this guy and decide from there. The more shops I talk to, the more confusing it gets.  Thanks for your help.

Hi there.  I've been reading up on the comments you all have been posting about car paint jobs.  Does anyone of you know of a garage that can do a paint job that's under $2000 (even better if it's under $1500 or sub $1K).  I know all the argument for and agains price point versus quality and short of being branded of being "el cheapo" but I don't plan to keep my car for more than 2 years.  I just want to have a paint job done over a 2 square inches of rust on the side wheel well and on the driver's side door jam.  Besides, the old paint is starting to lose it's lustre.  The paint job doesn't have to fancy with triple coat this or double coat that.  Just a basic job will do.  So, having said that, does anyone know of any place???  Let me know.

Welcome to the Forum Volvosteve, I would think you could get an Earl Schibe type of paint job at a Maco type of business for under a $1000. If you can sand the body down yourself and do some of the masking you may even cut down the price even more. Painting it is easy, its the preperation that takes the time and money.

If your not fussy I am sure there are some 'freelancers' in small shops that could do a splash and "run" pun intended orange peelish job fer real cheap...if you can live with the results...ask around....

Hey Volvosteve,

Welcome to the forum. I haven'r posted here in awhile. I know Barrie and Articsteve missed me alot!
There is a shop I know that quoted me $1500 for my Integra which includes repairing the rust on my wheelwells and other areas.  I did not choose them because I know what $1500 is going to get me and I plan on driving my car to the ground.
I noticed you're in Scarborough, so this works out. The place is called "Car Aid", ask for Steve and tell him "Susan the Integragirl" sent you.
His number is 416 266-6852, located on 3596 St. Clair Ave E. (at Midland Ave.), in Scarborough.
I have seen some of his work and they do do a pretty good job for the price.  Good luck!
