New BMW 3 series
« on: April 29, 2005, 09:26:08 pm »
I just got an invite from BMW to go to Downsview to hammer a new 330 around for a couple of hours. Lots of sessions of two whole weekends in late May
I suspect one has to sit through a film, get demonstrated on by a "professional driver" and then gets 1/2 hour or so around the airfield

Anyone else get this ( came by email)

I got invited even if I happen to own 2 Audis, BMW's arch-rival for sports sedan.I already signed up for 8-10 am session on 21st Saturday to avoid busy weekend afternoon rush hour traffic into downtown from Cambie Bridge.

I didn't get one but would love to go.  Anybody know how you can get on the list?

Interesting article, funny thing is they mention a performance gap between 258hp and the 400hp M3, but what about the current M3 motor of 333hp?  Is it not reliable enough / too expensive?  Why not use it in the new cars?

Thanks for the link MD!  I personally prefer this kind of twin-turbo setup.  It makes more sense for everyday driving. More usable power, more usable torque, all accross the rev range.  The diesel version will be one heck of a competition to the E-Class CDI and VW TDIs.

went to the town/country on kennedy and hwy7 last night wow what a party and finally got to see the new 3 series. I personally liked the exterior very slick and sporty interior very plain and simple would look good with the wood trim option. Glad to see the price of the new series hasn't change base model 325 39900 330 47599

Yeah, the pricing, coupled with more power, more features and, well, just simply being a new BMW suggest a number of people will suck up the new, controversial styling and swap their E46 cars in for the new ones.

Two years from now when the lease / interest rates drop for the 3 series, that'll mean good things indeed.

BMW's sales up last month despite their bread n' butter cars (3-series) being well on their way into the grave.  BMW Canada is such an amazing business.

Not yet posted on line, but I'll wager they'll be 6.9% when the car first appears.

$2800 for the sport package (only 1 really useful). BMW did their homework and resisted the temptation of jacking up their prices ( to Audi). Next move is for Lexus with their IS 250 and 350... Interesting fight!

The sport pack has 18" wheels... Froggy you haven't driven on Toronto downtown streets recently!  They'd last about 5 minutes.

trouble with this car is the runflats... sorta measn that either you have to buy runflat snows on runflat capable rims, or 5 conventional snows and rims and fill the whole extra trunk space all winter with an enormous   wheel.

I went through the build your 3 series and I think I would NOT buy the sport pack but I will wait for the new 330xi before any further decision making....and I still think the front is ugly.

Actually, I test drove a 330ci last january and Tpl, you are right as I could feel every bumps and pieces of gum on the road... Now that I am thinking about it, maybe the Sport pack is not such a good idea
Time to go back to Europe!

Toyota Canada/Lexus must be sharpening their pencils.

BMW had little choice unless they wanted to conceed sales volume. Clearly they have no intention of doing that.

No need for a price increase with the 325s or 330s just add a larger engine. 335i with 300HP+!

Hmm...
For the price of a 325i, you could get a G35.
For the price of a 330i, you could get a IS350.

Oh yeah and Audi would "never" follow with a 300HP+ 3.6L V6 which will be used in the upcoming Passat (with 280HP).

HP, HP, HP, will it ever stop? I don't know.

At least the GHz war between Intel and AMD have cooled down abit.
