Why offer incentives like that when they clearly don't need them to be competitive? That'd be a bit like Honda offering 0% financing on their Civics when they outsell anything else on the market by a big margin.

huh! BMW sched maint for pre 2005  is 2 oil changes, 2 cabin air filters and a kick of the tires.   For 2005 + you'd possibly get 3 oil changes.

oil every 25000 kms   service every 50000

To quote the BMWCCA techs " dealers dont actually service BMWs anymore"
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Good point Tpl. I wonder, what does scheduled maintenance actually mean? Is it the bare minimum? For "regular" or "extreme" conditions?

If I had a lease, I assume the "free" scheduled maintenance would satisfy my obligations under the lease agreement.

BUT, what if I owned the car. Would the "free" scheduled maintenance satisfy my desire to have a well-maintained car? I.e., if I wanted a 6000 km oil change, would the dealer only offer 12K?

Jeff, you have an A4...what's included in your free maintenance? And how much do you think it would be worth if you had to actually pay for it out of pocket?

(yes, I know, nothing is free and you have already paid for it in one way or the other...)

For my A4, EVERYTHING is covered... just about.

I expect before the end of my lease, I will need to replace a set of tires.  BUT, the service agreement includes a set of brakes, at least one alignment, wiper blades, light bulbs, all oil service, everything else that's included in 'regular maintenance' (ie. regular inspections and lubrications of all the bits n' pieces).  It's the most comprehensive program of its kind I believe (4 years, 80,000 kms).

What's it worth?  Well, when I had my BMW, the service intervals were much more frequent than they are now.  Seems to me I ended up needing 2 services per year (one oil $110 and one "Inspection I" or "Inspection II" which ranged from a few hundred to over $600).

It's so nice to know that no matter what happens to the car, it'll be taken care of -- no surprises at all (and incidentally, the mediocre Goodyear RSA's that came standard seem to be wearing well).

When shopping around, my cost analysis spreadsheet comparing all the different cars I was carefully considering showed that for the Audi, the maintenance and low insurance costs tipped the scales in its favour over the Honda Accord 6 speed I was also considering.

That surprises me about Lexus.  Didn't they used to offer the free service?

That sounds pretty good. The thought of a $0.00 service invoice is an attractive selling feature. I'm surprised about the alignment being included.

Greekgod, when you factor in the silly-low lease rates right now (and a year ago when I got mine), it was a deal too good to pass up.

So far it's far exceeded my reliability expectations too.

Yeah, most people didn't know Audi's warranty covers brakes too.

Oh, you just drive with it on like I did for 3 years It became my friend, and when the low fluid washer light, low fuel light, and front brake pad indicator light were all on at once, we were lit up like Christmas havin' a party!

Now that it's gone can't say I miss it, but do cherish the fond memories together...

Did you purposely leave the door ajar as well so you could get a Christmas carol going too?  :-)

Yeah, most people didn't know Audi's warranty covers brakes too.

Do they? In the Audi forums that I frequent, people were going nuts a month or two ago about Audi deciding that they *won't* warrantee brakes anymore. That's apparently the new exception to the "everything is covered for free" rule. It even applies to existing owners, not just new purchases. Now, these forums are mostly US so perhaps things are different in Canada?

What is the oil change interval for Audi A4 under their free maintenance plan and what kind of oil is used?

The dealer will let you do it every 6 months regardless of the mileage.

Thanks for the maintenance info.

In a few years I will be looking for another winter unit for my wife and a well used A4 awd would be a good unit up here in the hinterland.

However, if we could nail down this oil change interval thing I would appreciate it. Lets base this on the lowest common service denominator;  the affluent suburban house bag that drives short distances with lots of traffic idling and treats the car like a disposable appliance.

What is the maximum length of time Audi will let a leasee or owner run the car between oil changes regardless of mileage?

I assume based on the info from S60 that the mileage interval is 8K which is pretty well standard.

Lastly, does Audi use 100% synthetic oil?
