Anyone have info about the 2006 Sentra?
« on: April 22, 2005, 11:27:48 pm »
Everybody seems to be interested in the 2006 Civic but no one seems to care about the 2006 Sentra.

The Sentra should also be getting a redesign this year.
I remember the Sentra once had a place on the top 10 Canadian sales chart but not anymore.

If Nissan can improve the Altima by THAT much and bring us cool cars like the G and M.
What should we expect to see from the next generation Sentra?
Any info, predictions or spyphotos?

The Sentra is bland and has been lost in a sea of grey.  The SE-R is definitly more intreaguing, but still based off of a bland car.

If I'm not mistaken, the 2006 Sentra will have no major changes.  The redesign you're thinking of is for the 2007 model year.  Personally I think it's time to let go - since that body was introduced in 2000.  So it seems like the sentra will go out to the bitter end.  It is a good little car backed by an even better company.

But for the 2006's, the Honda Civic will pretty much steal the spotlight in the compact scene.. and they deserve it.

Sentra will not change until 2007 model year. But Nissan will likely bring it out in Spring 2006 so it is likely less that a year away. Rumour is that the next generation will be similar to the Nissan "Cube" they sell in Japan... similar to a Scion xB (i think...the boxy one...hence the name)

I read somewhere that the big boss hated the look of the next-gen Sentra and sent the stylists back to the drawing board, opting to keep the 2000-vintage design for yet another year. The current Sentra was pretty frumpy from the start, but it drove well enough to be a big seller for a good long time, and it's still a decent ride. Newer Civics and Corollas have better packaging, but they're no better to drive.

the existing Sentra was never a particularly strong seller in Canada. Last year it did well under 10,000 units, compared to 38,000 Corollas and 62,000 Civics...

Hondasalesguy,

What do the Civic sales numbers include?
Sedan, Coupe, Hatch, Hybrid and EL?

And are the Corolla and Matrix figures lum-summed together?

Depends what you mean by strong. Earlier in its run, it outsold everything except Civic, Corolla and the fleet-buyers' domestic faves: the loss-leader GM twins and the heavily discounted Focus. Not bad for a car that looks boring from the front, bland from the side and hideous from the back, and offers only one (dull and less than functional) body style.

Civic numbers do include all Civics but no Acura ELs. Of the 62,000 Civics sold last year in Canada I am guessing only a couple hundred were Hybrids, maybe 1000 SiR hatches, 7500 to 10,000 Coupes and probably 50,000 Sedans. I think the Matrix is counted as a separate car from the Corolla. So yes Honda does have more than one body style to sell and count towards their "best selling car in Canada" total. And yes, between Matrix, Corolla, and Echo, they collectively outsell Civic. But we are talking about name plates here not entire categories of car by manufacturer.

If Canada gets the Fit/Jazz early in 2006, I think it may cannibalize some Civic sales but with a brand new Civic expected to do 65,000 - 70,000 units, you could likely add another 10,000 of the Fit/Jazz if they import that many.

the sentra, corolla and the civic is getting bigger by the year and also more expenisve. Toyota was the first to have a smaller entry vehicle in the form of the tercel way back then and the echo was its replacement.
Jazz/Fit would more likely be a 06 calender yr release if it makes it as a 06 or simply a MY07 b/c they are releasing the redesigned civic in the fall.
Sentra will continue as a sedan (most likely) and a subcompact in the form of a micra or cube would be placed under it. It has been 2 yrs since the concept of releasing something under the sentra in North America, but nothing else aside from that is known.
The sentra never caught on especially in the current iteration. The look was never appealing in its class and everything seemed to be too middle of the road to win it much acclaim. I was even over-shadowed the p5.

Hondasalesguy,

Which horoscope were you? I guess Cancer.
You seem to be so sensitive.

I just asked how the figures break down, I didn't imply Toyota outsold Honda.
And even if the Corolla outsold the Civic, it wouldn't affect my preference.

No offense taken JSCC, didn't think I was being sensitive, I was admitting what some people do point out to me already, that taken together, the Echo and Corolla outsell the Civic. I was trying to be informative for those of you who may not know the actual sales numbers for our market.

As far as the time line for introduction of the Jazz/Fit, I was told personaly by the new President of Honda Canada at a sales function in Ottawa this past February that we would definitely have the Jazz/Fit in Honda Canada showrooms by Spring 2006. Whether it is badged as an '06 or an '07 model I don't know.

Would you happen to know if Jazz/Fit might reach US showrooms too? Thanks.

Ottawa? I thought it was in Vancouver, near Whistler.
2 sales consultants went to get a 2004 medal, when I was working with Acura.

New Sentra will more then likely use the styling cues from the Azeal concept.

the meeting I attended was for Ontario and Atlantic reps who made it to Council of Sales Leadership. Quebec had their own event in Montreal as did the Western 4 provinces which was held in Vancouver.

Mitsu fan, I know you have your loyalty to that brand, but Civics have been in Canada for over 30 years, so the dealer network is firmly established. But contrary to popular belief, Honda cars don't drive themselves inside and write up the sales contract all on their own. Toyota and Mzada are both competitive and there are others who price out Honda but buy Korean or North American brands usually due to cost issues.

We Canadians are a cheap lot, eh?
