195/60 15 Tires
« on: April 15, 2005, 09:29:41 pm »
Hey All,

Just a quick question. A co-worker will be replacing her tires this coming summer. The car is a 2004 Honda Civic EX coupe. She's looking for a better handling tire than the mediocre OE RE 92's.

I browsed the Tire Trends site and found the Kumho Ecsta ASX and Pirelli Four Seasons, both are V rated. The Kumho's are much chaeper and I've heard many great things about them. Also, they are asymetrical which should offer her some improved handling.

Is this one a no brainer for her? Any other suggestions?

If she is looking for some better performance and longevity the ASX has been a great option. Receiving excellent reviews and offers a treadwear rating of 420, which is very high for this type of tire. Other tires to consider would be the mentioned Pirelli P6 and the Toyo TPT.

If she wants to stay with an H-rated tire the options are much more plentiful and will still offer better performance than the RE92's the car came with. Tires you could then add to your list are the BFG Traction TA, Falken ZE-512 and Yokohama Avid H4S.

Hey Mort,

Thanks for the input. I priced out the options you suggested and it seems like she is leaning towards the Kumhos. However, she is still interested in the Pirelli P6's and Traction TA's.

Out of these three which would you say provides the best grip. Tread life isn't a huge concern for her as she doesn't drive very much and uses a set of dedicated winters.

They are all similar, not overlly performance in nature. I would say the design of the ASX will lend to better dry stability. The open design of the Traction TA will lend itself to better wet ability.
