Which 18" Summer Tires are better?
« on: April 15, 2005, 12:16:28 pm »
Looking for advice on which 225/40 R18 summer tires i should get.  Currently looking to get the following:
1. Falken FK-451
2. Hankook Ventus K 104
3. Kuhmo Ecsta MX
leaning towards the Falken.  I have the 512's right now and they have been great.  Haven't heard too much about the Hankooks, but they are a great price.
any advice would be great

Happy with my 16" 451s, but hearing good things on the Kumho Ecsta MX.  These are all solid performance summer tires, but certainly are not in the leagues of the "real" performance tires like the T1-R, S0-3, etc..  Depends on what you want/need.

Take a look at the Fuzion ZRi's.  I got them put on my VW GTI 1.8t and am loving them!  I got them at Tiremaxx.

Hi...

You should add the Yokohama AVS ES100 to your list...  I had them for 2 years on my Beetle...  great grip in both wet and dry...  a bit uneven wear, and only got 2 seasons out of them...  but for the price a decent bit of performance...  But I just ordered some Toyo T1R's to replace them...

We have had great success with all of the tires you listed. The MX probably offers the best pure dry performance, but a little more pricy than the Falken and Hankook. The Falken and Hankook definitely offer great performance for the price and if you dont want to spend too much are great options. You might also consider adding the Nitto NT-555 to your list. Great dry hookup and well priced Japanese performance.

If you are looking for the best consider the mentioned T1-R, S-03 and PS2. A little more expensive, but offer that extra bit of performance if you really like to push it.
