Tire Pressures
« on: April 11, 2005, 07:06:44 pm »
I did a plus-1 upgrade last week for my 2004 CLK320 coupe. It's a new set of Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S (staggered: 225-45-17 and 245-40-17) on 17-inch AMG wheels.

So far, I put 31 PSI in front and 33 PSI in rear. What do you think? I have looking for a balance of performance and treadwear.

Does the users manual have anything on pressures for different sizes?
What does the tire shop think?
That car weighs about the same as my bmw which would specify  pressures just like that for 225-45/17 but that means nothing, its just pressures to maintain a) BMWs idea of under/oversteer and b) to maintain the load rating of the tires.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

For regular driving use, I would stick to the car manufacture's tire placard ratings...  Even though the wheels and tires are new, it's still the same car, same weight, so no need to add more pressure...
