1994 1.8L jetta auto, 148k.  Downshifts on its own and upshifts hard. Any ideas? Trans is not slipping it just decides on it's own to downshift into 3rd and 2nd when at highway speeds. Pop it into neutral and it seems to work ok for a short period of time before it does it again.

Have you check'd the fluid levels?  Maintainace?

Fluid is fine, has been serviced 40 k ago. Like I said it's not slipping , just shifts on its own, I know it's electronic related, just don't know which sensor etc it could be and my scanner won't interface with it.
