When is everyone switching to Summer Tires?
« Reply #20 on: March 25, 2005, 09:02:53 am »
Yeah Morty & BOB from Tire trends gave us the scoop on how Temps affect Winter and Summers....IF I Remember it's like above 5 to 7C Winters wear out like
a fat man in the desert and below 5 Summers drive like hockey pucks (Whatever THEY are ?? anyone remember!!!)..ALL SEASONS are obviously more "flexible" with the minus temps and summer heat. So yes JULY FER ALBERTANS!!!! Go with your areas temp norms listed above..be safer and cheaper for wear....
THERE IS NO CURE FOR "LOTUS"......ONLY TREATMENT.....

I know 3-5*C are the point at which my old T1-S's and my 451s turn into hockey pucks.  I wait for overnight lows to be above those temps before switching over (more or less the point when you no longer get overnight frost).

Did both cars yesterday (Easter Monday)

I think a good general rule for me in Ottawa is to changeover US Thanksgiving and Easter weekends.

Crap…..I had better order my Toyo T1-R 245/45ZR17’s this week then…..the snow will be gone by Friday if the recent trend in temps continues.

Same as RayT, changed on Monday (lots of sweating in the driveway).  Rayt's dates are more or less mine as well.

Beat me by a day.  I store my extra tires at my 'rents place.  We went there two weeks ago for this purpose, and ended up shovelling their driveway instead.  Taking snows off seemes premature.

I've got an appointment for the CL for tomorrow and the 240's gettin them taken off later in the week. The past two weeks has been great weather wise. I would've definately done it earlier, but I was too busy. I usually don't wait this long to do it.

Finally changed mine this past weekend.  Passat on Saturday, Audi on Sunday.  Still have to clean off the winters wheels - that usually gets done several weeks later.  Ugh!

20th april for Cold Lake, which is probably a near personal best. i know my GF wants to wait until the May long weekend. She's such a pessimist. Did it in the driveway, it being such a sunny day and all... Gotta brag while I can.

Just had mine changed a few days ago....as daytime highs have been reaching the low to mid 20's which are unseasonally high.

Looks like that I will have to get new winters next season as a couple of the tires have bulging sidewalls (due to the cords???)....still lotsa tread after lasting three winters. I am guessing that Nordic Wintertrac cords are easily damaged as all tires have some sort of bulging varying from slight to moderate.
