When is everyone switching to Summer Tires?
« on: March 23, 2005, 02:39:29 pm »
Is this weekend too early?  Maybe okay for people switching to All-Season, but not for Summer yet, I guess.

I think it depends alot on where you live.  Certain parts of the country receive snow longer than others.  And rural drivers are more apt to see snow covered roads than those in urban areas.  I'll probably take the winter tires off in a couple of weeks.

Are you the person who called in the Army a few years ago to shovel snow?

Victoria Day Weekend?!?  Do you put the snows back on Thanksgiving Weekend?

I just put my snow tires back on today!  I got stuck three times yesterday with my all seasons west of Edmonton with the big dump of snow we received.

I was thinking about this today.  But then looked out the window and saw it snowing this afternoon.  When will winter ever end?

Looking at the long term forecast they say it will start to warm next week with lots of rain.

I miss my summers and want to put them back on but I think we (TO area) will still have to wait a couple of weeks to be safe.

Yeah, just when you thought it was safe to come out of hibernation, this crap happens in S.Ontario again?!  Enough snow fell in a few hours this afternoon for me to have a lot of fun doing 4-wheel power slides in a vacant parking lot tonight.

Lousy Smarch weather.

Snows to A/S tires on the Audi 2 weeks ago (primarily because of a road trip to Oregon).  Won't change to summers on the bimmer until I see the overnight frost go away, but Easter weekend is my usual time.

I'm in Vancouver for reference.

I gave up switching tires so I just switch cars instead.  I do the switch May 1 and Nov 1

Other than that it would be first or second week in April depending on the temps.

I was going to wait until the start of April to do mine. We're having very sketchy weather right now where the temperature has been hovering around the 0-4 degree mark for the past week or snow. That means that if precipitation DOES come, there is a chance that it could be snow.

I figure early to mid april is a good time for us eastsidaz....(for draino)

It snowed about 4 inches the other day. Won't be changing my winters for another 3 to 4 weeks...mid April at the earliest...wait and see.

I guess it also depends on what the tires are. My Passat's summer tires are all-seasons so if I get caught in a few late spring snows it is not the end of the world. When I had my Contour SVT running Summer only rubber I kept the winters on till it was obvious that Spring had sprung for good.

Read a poster somewhere that says that you should consider changing them out when the temp is above 7C consistantly. So maybe, mid-july for albertans....
