2005 Motorsport Club of Ottawa Solo2/Pro-Solo Schedule
« on: March 12, 2005, 05:37:29 pm »
I know there is still snow on the ground, but spring is just around the corner and with it another season of cone dodging. (plus it's never too early to start planning.
Here it is, the 2005 MCO Solo II schedule! It’s made up of two independent series, the “MCO Solo II Series” and the “MCO Pro Solo Series”. Also, we’ve got a Performance Control School, Introduction to Solo II Event and a Regional Double Header Weekend planned.

MCO Solo II 2005 Schedule:

  • Performance Control School (Corel Center) – Saturday, May 14th
  • Introduction to Solo II Event (Corel Center) – Sunday, May 15th
  • MCO Solo II Event #1 (Corel Center) – Sunday, May 22nd
  • (Tentative) MCO/CADL Official Road Trip (PMG) – Sunday, June 5th
  • MCO Solo II Event #2 (Corel Center) – Sunday, June 12th
  • MCO Pro Solo Event #1 (Corel Center) – Sunday, June 26th
  • MCO Solo II Event #3 (Corel Center) – Sunday, July 10th
  • MCO Solo II Event #4 (Corel Center) – Sunday, July 24th
  • MCO Solo II Event #5 (Corel Center) – Sunday, August 14th
  • MCO/ SPDA Regional Solo II Events (Corel Center) – August 27th & 28th
  • MCO Pro Solo Event #2 (Corel Center) – Sunday, September 18th
  • MCO Solo II Event #6 (Corel Center) – Sunday, October 9th

Note: Other Important 2005 MCO Events:

High Performance Driving School/ Road Racing License School (SMP) – July 2nd & 3rd

Solo I Weekend (CMP) – August 20th & 21st

Ted Powel Invitational Race Weekend (CMP) – September 9th - 11th

The MCO Solo II Series will consist of 6 local events and 1 road trip. The best 4 of 7 events will count toward the championship.

Pro Solo is perhaps the most exciting format of Solo II. We’re planning to host a 2 event MCO Pro Solo Series in ’05!

Both the Performance Control School and the Introduction to Solo II Event are a great way to get into Autocross or improve your skills.

The 2005 Regional Double Header Weekend will undoubtedly be the biggest Solo weekend ever hosted in Ottawa and will be drawing all the best Autocrossers in Ontario and Quebec!

This is a BIG season we’ve got planned. I’m excited, hope you are too!

So am I, it's a shame to see anyone penalized for being too honest with their insurance agent. Alternate forms of insurance are on their way and will take care of these problems. For myself, I can't resist doing it. After all that, it is the main reason I drive a girlie car in the summer, otherwise I might have just picked up a Sebring rag top and be done with it.

Some bad news - The Corel Center pulled the last 4 dates in our schedule. Of the 4 were a regular series event, a Pro Solo and the 2 Regional dates we had planned. As a result, the series director has decided to cancel the MCO Pro Solo series and the SPDA decided to keep their date but move it to another venue outside Ottawa.

Some good news - We were able to salvage the MCO Solo II series by using one of the Pro Solo dates and adding another point scoring road trip. Regional Solo II director Wes Tanney and the HADA, graciously swapped dates with us so we could host a Regional Solo II event in Ottawa on August 14th. The MCO Executive agreed to provide two very special door prizes: 1 free entry to the MCO Performance Driving School held at Shannonville Motorsport Park on July 2-3rd and 1 free entry to the MCO Lapping Day at Calabogie Motorsports Park on August 19th.

Solo II in Ottawa for 2005:

“Learning to Autocross” weekend:
Performance Control School (Corel Center) - Saturday, May 14th
Introduction to Solo II Event (Corel Center) - Sunday, May 15th

MCO Solo II Series:
Event #1 - MCO Solo II (Corel Center) - Sunday, May 22nd
Event #2 - MCO/CADL Solo II Road Trip (PMG) - Sunday, June 5th
Event #3 - MCO Solo II (Corel Center) - Sunday, June 12th
Event #4 - MCO Solo II (Corel Center) - Sunday, June 26th
Event #5 - MCO Solo II (Corel Center) - Sunday, July 10th
Event #6 - MCO Solo II (Corel Center) - Sunday, July 24th
Event #7 - MCO/CADL Solo II Road Trip (PMG) - Sunday, July 31st

Regional Weekend:
MCO Regional Solo II (Corel Center) – Sunday, August 14th

*Scoring of the MCO Solo II Series will be the best 4 of 7 events.*

**The MCO Performance Driving School door prize will be given away at one of the first 3 MCO Solo II Series events. The Calabogie Motorsports Park Lapping Day prize will be given away at one of the last 4 MCO Solo II Series events. Both prizes are transferable**

May the 14th Performance Control School and the Introduction to Solo2 on the 15th are coming up soon. The 15th's event will be a light one where newcomers can try the sport in a relaxed atmosphere while being able to go for ride alongs with some of the series regulars to get some pointers and guidance.

That schedule kind of blows though, last year you guys were auto-xing until Sep, what's with only 6 events locally??

Just seems like you don't get much practice out of that, don't other groups run every weekend?

It's not the best schedule, nobody is happy about it. But we have no control over when we are allowed to use the Corel Center's lot. The PMG facility is a dream area, flat as a board, beautifull pavement, no drain catch basins, no light standards. Plus the CADL club is extremelly competitive witch forces everyone to give it all they've got, it definitely is worth the drive. All I hope is that this is not signalling the end of us being able to use the lot in years to come. I'm sure a few people might take advantage of the fact that we stop running at the end of July to compete at the Provincial level, I'm still assesing the situation on that.

Runwhatyabrung you seem to know alot about the MCO.  I have a friend that wants to come out and see what you guys are all about and I was wondering what times the events on the schedule above are taking place at???  Also he is driving a porsche 914, wondering if this is fine to compete.  If you or anyone else who can answer my questions could reply before May 14th it would be great.

Any car is fine to compete as long as the car is  mechanicaly sound, it does not have to be a licensed for road use. Anything goes really, last year we have had everything from a mid 90's Chevy Cavalier on street tires to a very recent Viper, a few cars that show up are flat towed or trailered. The event of the 15th will be a day of introduction for those who want to try it without having to commit a full day at it. A lot of newcomers will be there that day so the run count will not be high. Look for a car similar to the one in my avatar and you'll find me.

The date: Sunday, May 15th
Location: Corel Center
Registration Opens at 10:30AM and Closes at 11:30AM.
NOTE: We’ll accommodate latecomers but try to be on time

Regular events usually start at 10:00 am with registration/tech starting at 7:30 and closing at 9:30
