2005 Nissan X-Trail problems

"Nissan has responded and has accepted full responsibilty. To regain our confidence in their product, they have provided us with a package that has demonstrated their committment to customer satisfaction and a piece of mind down the road. Thanks again"

This reads like something right out of a press release or company advert! :-)

Saffy,Saffy, Saffy - the Avalanche was no toy Boy! It was a real mean mad machine that barked and growled along the way.Enjoyed having it and if we do it again it will likely be the full sized edition - in Denali form - no I can't deny it - Denali or not.

As for the Murano - you may be onto something. It does have those darn side air bags that I think are important, but the Toy has experience on it's side and a reputation that it upholds. It offers traction control and skid control. Murano doesn't.

I'll wait and decide after I spend some seat time with them to get used to their nuances - and mine.

interesting reading folks.  I will look into the relay inhibitor/internal bulletin at my local dealer.  Have had my X-Trail for 6 months now and no problems at all.  Haven't driven in cold weather though.  I bought it to tow a tent trailer.  Had a tranny cooler installed and it pulled no problem for about 3 weeks of camping last summer.  Am very pleased w/ the vehicle so far and no problems.  I researched the heck out of this vehicle on the WWW and didn't find a lot of complaints in UK and other countries where they sold it since about 2000.  Was glad it was not technically a new vehicle w/ bugs to iron out.

We've had ours for 18 months.  The CD player stopped working, and the grab handle above the passenger door was slightly mis-formed out of the mold, so we had both replaced.  Last night, the wife had an issue turninf the key to start the car.  Was probably on a bit of an incline and the key woudn't turn.  I told her to rock it forward-and-back in her seat and it started.  She'll bring that up at the next oil change.

Otherwise, 19 months, 38K and no serious issues.

Just a lil update,  my 2005 X-Trail has a rust spot the size of a Toonie.  Nice bubble right over the wheelwell.  I will never buy or recommend anyone ever buy a Nissan,  we are now selling.  Keep a close eye on your paint around the wheels,  good luck.

It seems very unusual for a 2005 model XTrail to develop a rust spot of that size that quickly. I wonder why? I can't imagine any vehicle only 2 years old with that much rust unless you drive it through salt piles? Seems strange, what does Nissan say about it??  ???

EDIT - going back and rereading this thread leaves me confused again - I thought the problems were all being solved? Apparently not. This is either one of the worst built XTrails in history or there is more to this story? Did the thing fall off the shipping container on the way across the Pacific and they fished it out and sold it?  ;) ;D Or maybe it's a Katrina car??

Paint chip, poor paint adhesion or rusting from the inside-out?

We had ours Krown'ed from new.  No rust.
