2005 Nissan X-Trail problems
« on: February 17, 2005, 09:56:47 pm »
Where do I start??  I have a brand new X-Trail and it was in the dealer for repair for 7 days!  The vehicle was completely dead on three separate occassions over a 2 week period and left me stranded 3 times. They had to change the fuel pump and relay inhibitor and Nissan has heard of others having the same problem.  Also,  we got soaked in the car wash- attendant had to hit the emergency switch to shut it down as the sun roof had a faulty seal and it was replaced.  I have contacted Nissan Canada- John Lindo and Rui Nunes - and it's been 2 weeks and haven't heard a thing back so that is why I am going public. Nissan sure wants the sale,  but they are nowhere to be found for customer service when you have a problem.

That's too bad, 555, any maker can make a dud once in a while. Unfortunately, you got it and that makes it no fun. Hang in there and I'm sure Nissan will fix your problems. The X-Trail is a proven vehicle in the rest of the world.

LOL

Just bought one today.  I did a lot of research, and your experiences are extremely rare for the breed.  not that this is any consolation for you.

Sorry to hear about you problem 555, I've had one since June 04 and it's been trouble free since day one.  My dealer says they're selling well and none of them have had issues.  We don't live in a perfect world and it looks like your one of the unlucky ones. I agree with Cphansen if you search the net you'll be hard press to find issues with this model.  The question here, is the problem resolved? Did you get it back?

I did a lot of research over the net before buying and that is why I purchased it- excellent reports.  But after being stranded in North Bay, Sudbury and Huntsville  my confidence went out the window.  Try going into work every day and the first thing every co-worker asks "did your NEW car start today?"  If you own a X-Trail make sure you ask your dealer about the fuel pump and relay inhibitor- they posted an internal bulletin because of others starting to have this same problem.  It sounds like the same Altima problem in '03.You are right,  these things do happen,  but when they do the dealer and manufacturer have to step up to the plate.  Try contacting Nissan Headquaters directly?  good luck!  1-800 # where you just get to talk to the guy typing and that's it.  Well,  I went further after getting soaked in the car wash and got managers names  John Lindo and Rui Nunes.  I left them messages on Feb 7th and haven't heard the slightest response.  I mean,  your local dollar store would respond at least!

Try going up the ladder (Ian Forsythe maybe?) to other people or write to the Toronto Star Wheels section and lay it out. Nissan will respond.

It's a :censor: to have things happen, but like others have said and your research proved - the X Trail is not a new vehicle other than in Canada.

Let's hope they do step up to the plate for you.

Thanks everyone!  you guys have done more and made me feel better than Nissan!  I will contact Ian Forsythe and if that fails I will go to the Star.  I will update later.  Off to LA for the week.

Your dealer can make such a difference, around here we have dealers that can make you hate your Ford and one in particular that will make you like it.  Service, service, service.

I have 24,000km on my 05 X-trail now.  It has not been back to the service department once (other than oil change etc.).  I could not be happier
with my purchase.  Sounds like you have a bad apple.  Good luck finding the problem.

I would take the Nisan back and hand them the keys and demand my money back or another one. if its been less than 30 days. I would even stand there with a sign or vebal telling people what the problems as they arrived in the showroom. I make a big stink about SUV. I would go as much as spare time aloud until the  promblem was fixed

What's the story of lemon laws in Canada.  Can you actually return a vehicle that is less than 30 days old?
I'd rather be fishing.

Leaving voice messages or verbal conversations are not useful for legal issues. Always write a letter (emails are ok but snail mail is better) detailing all events, issues, dates etc and ask them to respond. CC multiple people if needed. Always keep a running log with events, dates, all information concerning this automobile. This helps in all legals matters and something companies are apt to respond to.

What model of X-Trail?

555, sorry about your problem, but I can't believe you're having such a tough time with it. There's a service bulletin on that non-starting problem. It's caused by a relay in the electronic throttle that isn't up to the job when the temp hits -30. Your dealer can fix it free in 20 minutes. If he doesn't have the part yet, have him swap the faulty relay for a stronger one from the AC as a temporary fix.

Hum...good to know if that ever happens to mine.  I assume this relay is located in the black box under the hood?

Thanks again for all your help and suggestions,  especially Gravlguts.  I called Nissan last Friday and left a message and am still waiting for their response???  Did I mention when we were looking to buy,  Nissan called me right away and even said they would pick me up at my house and take us for a test drive.  After the puchase and you have problems...."good luck!"  as Susan Elliott from media relations is quoted in her e-mail to me.  If Nissan does not step up to the plate by the end of this week,  I will post the names and e-mail contacts which Snowman had mentioned above.  Buy a $30,000 vehicle from Nissan and get treated like you just bought some $500 dollar used car....

Hey 555.  I fell badly for you.  You want the excitement of a new car to last for a while.  Your honeymoon ended pretty quickly.

In another forum, there was a Tucson owner that was not happy with his new car.  Never broke down or anything, it just kept drifting to one side.  Numerous alignment jobs and wheel balancing did not help.

Anyhow, in the end, he got a new vehicle and he's a happy boy now.

Moral of the story?  Sh*t happens.  We know that.  But how does the dealership treat you when things go wrong.

This is the most disappointing part of your tale.  Nissan should be treating you better.

Maybe the time has come to visit another dealership, my dealer is 2nd to none as far as I'm concern.
