If the dealer is offering you this product for say $800. their profit will be $750.00 and you will get $50 worth of nothing.

It looks as if the idea is to emulate a sacrificial anode by passing AC through any dissimilar metal joints on the body.

Galvanizing has the same effect IIRC in that the zinc slowly sacrifices itself atom by atom  to keep the steel intact.

I suspect but dont know, that modern car body shells have been, in part, designed by some very clever material technologists to ensure that any of these electro-chemical effects that cause corrosion are kept to a minimum and then the coating specialists make batter paints every year that passes to keep the underlying metal away from corrosive effects.

I would not be surprised if that gadget did not actually cause corrosion on a modern car.

There must be a chenmical engineer or materials specialist on this forum somewhere

The Canadian Military has been playing around with some of these type of devices for a no. of years and some have proven quite valuable for the purpose. We have a lot of military equipment sitting a lot so this does help prevent them from Rusting. I don't know what brand they are useing but some of these are very good and some are No Good at all.

The Candian military has now started to purchase military versions of the 2500 Chevy crewcab 4x4 which is great news.  So much for the $100,000 Bombardier 4 cylinder weenie unit.

The most recent and most modern army base in Canada is 10 miles outside of Owen Sound.  It must be a decision of the local commander, but all those trucks and the larger 10 ton trucks get Krowned at the Owen Sound Krown dealer.

Other than buying those subs which was a political decision, the Canadian Military is better run than folks think.

Artic they started receiving the 1st shiments of them a few months ago and are buying something like 1300 of the new GM Trucks for the military. I have seen a few of the new ones here at our local Base in London. Heavy Built Truck these are and extremely well equipped.

Artic - are you referring to the base near Meaford?  If so, I have fond memories of my basic training there - an ex-airborne warrant officer throwing me into a hut filled with tear gas.  Good times

Basic training assault courses, oh yeah I been there too. Real fun when the smoke gets so thick you lose your bearing and go around in circles.

Barrie; yes the military should have been doing that all along.  Buying from GM instead of these crazy vehicles from Bombardier and another outfit from BC (Whitestar or something like that) at 3 times the price.

The Bombardier unit, I cann't spell it, is the most ridiculous 4 cylinder little POS that you could imagine and the Canadian taxpayer was paying more for these things than the US military version Hummers.  Insane and very unsafe for the troops.  Hopefully that madness seems to be in the past.

WRC; yes that is the place.  I make the odd delivery up there and now no guards at the entrance.  You just drive right in. Very Canadian. Where you there before the big build up?  Early 90's I believe it was.

The GMs are for the reserve members. Regular forces are getting the G-wagons to replace the Iltis.

The Iltis was a decent replacement for the old Jeeps but was too small for some of the roles it was shoved into. It's also over 20 years old. And with the pounding they received, it's a wonder any are still around.

As far as cost, the supply contract was for $68,000,000 for 2500 vehicles, so about $27000, that wouldn’t buy the drive train of a HUMVEE even in 1983.

Of course most of my time in the army involved these:
ADATs

"LUVW (MILCOTS)
In late 2002, a contract was signed with General Motors Defence for the acquisition of 861 militarized GMC Silverado utility vehicles primarily for the Reserves. The Military Commercial off the Shelf (MILCOTS) will begin to enter service with the Canadian Forces starting in June 2003 with the final vehicle entering service in December 2003.

The MILCOTS is not intended for deployment over seas, however some military systems like the IRIS communications system is being installed. The MILCOTS is one of two vehicles intended to replace the aging ILTIS fleet. Of the 861 MILCOTS being acquired, 801 will be the basic variant, with 142 of these being kitted for the military police. The remaining 60 will be equipped as a cable-layer variant.

The benefits of this off-the-shelf system is that it comes with a five year warranty that can be supported by any local GM dealer."

Regular force for domestic use will be getting  some of these as well, but is not official.  G-wagons for international deployment.

I disagree with your cost formula for the IItis.  Back in the 80's any touted price of a Federal contract for anything was just a fraction of the real charge.  Hummer would have been the cheaper and better route.  Iltis might be a great little recon vehicle, but it was dangerous to the occupants on open roads.  To replace the Iltis for domestic use all they need to do is buy Jeep TJs.

The below pic is me at my local golf course one night after after losing due to bad grass.
