Anyone have a Z3?
« on: February 15, 2005, 08:49:39 am »
My son is looking at getting an older Z3.
He has a friend who is a wholesaler and said he could cars about 5gs cheap then Autotrader prices.
He is looking to spend about 10gs
These are Canadian prices
Any good or bad stories

If the BMW does not work out looking at an older Sunfire GT and a Hardley

ewww.... Z3? might as well get a miata. the Z3 uses the same chassis from an old e30 chassis. creaks and groans abounds. the 1.9l is a dog to drive. unless it's being tootled around by a 50 year-old auntie to and fro to country clubs.

It would list for about $15gs in Autotrader since he would get it from a wholesaler
A Miata is to small for me
how is S2000?

A 1.9L Z3 can outgun a Smart, and in the two seater world, that's about it.  But, if you want a cool-looking cheap drop-top with the prop on the hood, it's the cheapest way to impress the curb-side mini-skirt set.

Be aware that it's still a BMW, and a not-cared-for example will run into the poor house with parts.  A bargain is usually not.
No place I'd rather be...

It's a sharp looking car though, that may not be able to lay the rubber down, but fun to drive no less...

An S2000 would be my choice but you'll be hard pressed to find one at 10K.  30K and up....you're in business for a 2000 or 2001 model.

The 4 pot Z3's are like what the others have said, look into the 2.8L Z3.

THat price still seems fishy to me. If you're considering an S2000 I'd grab an S2000 but you're not gonna find one for $15K.

John brings up some good point about maintenance and performance on the 1.9 Z3. Aside from the miata I doubt that you will find many roadsters for $15K, unless if they have high milage or damage or something.

You can find '01 and '00 S2000's for about $25k  anything less than that and it's been hit for sure.

If a Miata is too small, the Z3 will not impress.  My time in the M version told me the cabin is pretty squishy.  If you've only tried the 99+ Miata, the 90-97 is cheaper, lighter, and has more cockpit room.

sometimes i pity big sized people as they often missed out on sports cars. I can see why NBA players drive around SUVs with 30" rims all the time.

Yes….the pre-2004 S2K’s are tight. I was almost in tears when I tried to fit in a ‘02 once. The ‘04’s are much better and I was comfortable during my test drive. Entering and egress take some thought though…I’m 6’-4” 230 lbs.

Fit's LIKE A GLOVE I tell ya, LIKE A GLOVE.

That's the one thing I'm afraid of with the Sky and Solstice I am afraid they will be too big, from the pics the seats look like american seats.  I like me tight seats, I guess they could be swapped for some Brides....

I love the fit in the S.  Everything is where I want it to be.  Seats are snug, good support.  Armrest right where I need it.  Wonderful ergonomics for me.

You do sit a bit low so the taller folks will need to fall into the car a bit...and it is funny to see a tall guy try to fold him/herself into an S2000 with the roof up.  :-)

Hmm.. all these talks about the S2000 makes me want to try one. Will I ever be converted into the temple of Honda? Gotta say, 00 & 02 S2ks are quite good value although no idea what have they've been through.
