Yesterday I noticed a cop car sitting in the hwy median and another one a little further ahead.  The cop in the median was peering in my direction through what looked to be a spotting scope (camera...?) and the other cop had a courier truck pulled over.  I suspect they were looking for handheld cell use and, or seat-belt compliance.  It's the first time I've seen this.

I've seen a similar looking setup here for laser speedtraps.

I've seen them setup on the QEW with scopes and laser speedtraps on the overpasses, with cops sitting underneath waiting and ready to go.

Newest LIDAR guns it seems have scopes for better accuracy and the ability to pick a car out of traffic.  EPS here have, of course, the latest and greatest speed enforcement equipment as they have 250,000+ tickets per year to write, a number you can't reach without the best gear possible.

Just today on the Anthony Henday freeway I was photo-radar'd twice and speed-trap clocked once.  In less than 10km.  The trap must have had 25 "perpetrators" pulled over.

But since I was doing 95 in the 100 all the way, I'm fine.  Watch out though, as they're now ticketing at 2km/h over.  That's right, TWO over.

That is crazy. At least here (for now) it seems you can drive 15-18 over on the 400 series hwys without being pulled over. Had a cop pass me going at least 160, maybe 170 with the lights on. You can sure make some quick distance going that fast.

Same with the highways in NB, and even in QC. I have heard that NS is not as lenient but have never been pulled over myself.

No kidding eh!
I wish they just raised the limits to 120 and be strict about it.

I've even PASSED cops on the highway with cruise on at 110 to 115 knowing i'm good.
It's funny to see some paranoid folks drive the limit or 2 over behind the cop all afraid and I come cruising by, of course after I do it, so does everyone else!

Driving along Lakeshore this morning towards Burlington to a breakfast spot with Mrs. Railton and Kate we came upon this Alfa. A pretty special example as described in the attached article. Of note, the brake lights did not work nor the windows.

Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?

I've heard of people stealing from the dealerships but have never seen it.
while not on the way to work, our regular weekend breakfast place is accross from the local GM store.
A poor new GM truck sitting near the back of the dealership lot got vitimized:

luckily for the dealer, if it was back there, it was most likely a lease return or repo... in those cases the dealer generally isn't held responsible...

it happens more than people want to believe... and accidents on test drives... and simple lot damage...

i'd say every month there is a couple grand on average to be spent fixing lot damage... and insurance is no help with a deductible that could replace a whole car on it's own.

having $4,000,000 worth of inventory out in the open is just too tempting for some people... just one of the many things that dealers put up with so that customers have choice and the ability to try out things...
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

I was shocked how much inventory dealerships carry when I moved here from England. I was used to tiny dealerships with a few vehicles crammed together.

You should check out http://www.longotoyota.com/index.htm. Makes out dealerships looks like sales kiosks by comparison.
The state 550+ employees.  the largest car dealer in the world at over 50 acres. Now part of the Penske group.

yeah... it varies so much from dealer to dealer... a rep i have is based out of pheonix... he has no clue what our stores are like... he keeps trying to make me do things that derrick dodge does... he doesn't get that we sell about 25 new cars a month average... they sell like 350. and to the shops in the states, derrick seems small.

This morning we were driving into town using my father-in-law's car, my wife has been using it as her father had a stroke last year and loaned her the car, (he thinks he'll use it again, but never will, severe cognitive problems due to the stroke)

Anyhow, we meet an OPP cruiser on a country road, I'm doing maybe 10kph over the limit, which is probably slower than most traffic.  Anyhow, about 2 minutes later I pull over and stop due to the flashing lights behind us indicating so.   The officer comes up to the car and says, "Hmmm, the owner of this car is 82 and has a suspended license, so I'm guessing that's not you?"   we explain the obvious and he takes our paperwork and goes back to his cruiser and we wait, and wait, wondering what is taking so long.

After about 10 minutes he comes back and says "Everything seems to be in order, but have you lived in Toronto recently?"
I reply no, except for a few months in 1986.

Seems someone with my last name (which is quite rare), born on the exact day as I was,  has a warrant out for his arrest.
