Today at lunchtime I saw a guy celebrating a very spring-like day in Edmonton by venturing forth in his Catherham/Lotus 7 replica. He was dodging some pretty serious puddles and smiling all the way.

Sigh!

Saw a black Dodge Viper (2003?) and a Benz CL600 today, also black. Man that Viper sure looks menacing in the rear view mirror. Got a decent look as it passed me (I obviously couldn't keep up) as well. Very impressive machine.

Also was the CL600. I was behind it for a good while until it accelerated to pass a bus and VROOM! Out of my site in like 5 seconds.

I was surprised to see the Viper out since we got 5 cms of snow today though...

Canadians are allowed to "drive" US plated cars, but if you want to drive the car into the country, you will probably need some paperwork.  First off, you'll need written permission from the owner.  Second, you'll probably need either some documentation that the car will be returning to the US, or proof that import taxes have been paid.

Oddly enough, the same rules can apply if you rent a car to cross the border with.  It's not so much that Canadians aren't allowed to DRIVE a car with US plates, it's the matter of bringing the car into the country:  do you have permission from the owner, and are you importing the car, or bringing it in temporarily.

It's so cold in Ottawa that I saw a dog stuck to a fire hydrant.  All the cool cars are in the garage by the looks of it.
I miss my motorcycle!

Yesterday I saw a current-gen M3 with an STi-sized (or larger) wing on the back. Also, possible ground effects all around, definitely not stock. Blasphemy! I almost cried.

Where do these kids get the money? I work hard to pay my mortgage, car payment, RRSP's, etc and I see young kids all around Vancouver driving Cayennes and X5's.

i'll tell you guys how the whole asian way of spoiling kids works. since i kidna went thru it, and still is going thru it.

school is the number one priority for asian parents. if you get bad grades, you can expect a whole term of grounding. i was grounded on new yrs eve in gr 11 b/c of my grades. and by bad they mean only 2 A's...so yes it gets that bad. you do well in school. you get rewarded and they no longer ground you on new yrs eve like this yr during First yr University. And by rewards, depending on each family's financial ability they usually get a car, laptop, computer, money. for me. i got insurance and part of the mazda6 paid for.

now scenario #2. one or both parents live on the other side of the world. to make up for "the lack of love" they buy their kid a nice spanking new m3 or something like this regardless of the child's or teen's behaviour. first of all, they don't know about their behaviour, and secondly thers no way of monitoring it. so basically, you hand a m3 to a kid who hasnt been disciplined for the past 3-4 yrs. he turns the m3 into something ugly, and street races it.

so to answer your question crolly. thats how asian kids get their cars and car parts. cuz yes i see a lot of young kids drivn expensive cars as well.

and some do things like this
http://www.wreckedexotics.com/carreragt/carreraGT_20050107_001.jpg

and some do what you saw.

most azn parents will not give money to their kids to mod their cars. My bro  lowered the accord and my parents when crazy on him. And they made him sell his intake too. I don't know..it just depends.

The fixation on the accumulation of wealth is a high priority for a lot of Asian families....even at the expense of spending quality time with their kids.  Sadly, most of these families substitute monetary gifts as a sign of affection, using money as the only bridge to their kids.

The ancient Chinese scholar Hu Phlung Dung once said, "Money can't buy love....but it can buy affection."

Money also buys affectation.  And while it can't buy love, it can buy you a pretty hot time in the sack!

Agreed MDX. Also buys a lack of guidance and direction in life, and stress that's not obvious.
