Replacement tires for '02 CRV
« on: January 31, 2005, 08:54:49 pm »
After less than 60,000km it's time to replace the OEM Bridgestone Duelers on my CRV.  Any suggestions?  I'm looking at all-seasons and I'm thinking that anything will give better winter performance than the Duelers. Any comments on the Goodyear Allegra?  It seems a Canadian Tire exclusive.

Tires receiving good reviews that you may consider are:

  Michelin Hydroedge  140K warranty
  Pirelli P3000 Cinturato   130K warranty
  BFG Traction T/A   115K warranty

If you want something a little more SUV oriented then you can also look at:

  Pirelli Scorpion STR

The Goodyear Allegra is built for Canadian Tire exclusively, but you should be able to find a similar tire at other dealers just with a different name.

The Allegra is next to identical to the Regatta 2...

Mort,

A friend of mine need replacement tires for his Honda CRV (2003 model I think)....his OE tires only lasted 40K or so. In addition to your list of tires above, would you recommend any other tire, maybe a 215/65R15....Falken ZIEX ZE-512 H-rated with a loading rating of 96? Does using this slightly smaller tire affect anything such as towing capacity, handling or ride comfort? Is this tread too aggressive for a SUV? How's the winter capabilities of this tire in comparison with other all season tires? Thanks.

Dave

Slightly smaller, but close enough. In most sizes the 215/65/15 carries the same load rating. The ZE512 carries a 96 load index, so it actually has a higher load carrying capacity. It is a 4wd, so just be sure to rotate regularly to maxmize the life of the tires. They will be well suited for the CRV and you wont find them too aggressive.

Winter capability is the same as every other all-season. Not capable at all. If you are worried about snow consider a snow tire....ya da, ya da...broken record.

hi joan
i have a 2000 crv my old sets of BFgoodridge last less than 40000km.  I have replace with the Goodyear TripleTred.  The traction is suprising better than the ones i have before. Even in Ice condition or snow, i handles like winter tires.  one draw back on those tires is that when the roads are startting to get wet.  Those tire will have some "weird sound" this is more significant in windy + wet conditions.  But these tire are good so far on the 7000km i have put on.
hope this help

I just changed out my Bridgestone Dueller OEMs for a new set of Nokian WR All seasons on my 2003 Honda CR-V EX.

The Duellers were just down to the wear indicators by 48,000km (29,000 miles).   I likely could have run them for another few thousand KMs, but replacements were on sale.

I found the OEMs were terrible tires.  Not very good in winter on ice, slush and snow and the last half of the treads seemed to wear out in less than half the mileage.

I have had the new set on the car for 24hours.  They are amazing.  The first thing I noticed leaving the tire shop was the quiet and the ride.  No more noisey hum and the ride is much much smoother.

I am very curious to see how the Nokian WRs wear.  They have a 100,000km warranty and I am hoping to keep the car that long to see how they perform.

I had a set of Nokian NRW on my last car (1999 VW Jetta) and they ran really well (though a little sloppy in the corners) especially in winter - but traded my car after only putting on 50,000 of the 80,000 tread life warranty.
