'04 Pontiac Montana - Fold - Flat 3rd Row Seat
« on: January 28, 2005, 08:50:00 am »
I have recently purchased a used Montana minivan with the 3rd row fold flat seat - single bench.  After driving it for a short period my wife now prefers the split bench.  Does anyone know if I can replace the fold flat seat with the split bench?  Are the mounts on the floor the same?

Any advise?

What exactly is a split bench?  Two individual seats?  Do they move back and forth independantly or are they fixed?  Obviously, I have no idea but when you get into that sort of thing the cost is usually thru the roof so to speak.

I once swaped a bench seat, which was actually a split bench, with two buckets and a console.  All GM stock parts and the seat rails got really expensive as did a few other things/issues.

Your only hope would be to find a wrecked 04 Montana with the seat you want and go there and take out all the hardware along with the seat.  It will still probably be a nightmare with the different seat belt configurations.

In answer to to question directly, I doubt very much the mounting hardware and seat belt anchors are the same.

Call a GM dealer parts guy and explain and get him to check his computer.  GM have a good visual computer parts thing going on.

Sorry - I was not too clear.  Pontiac has a 50/50 split bench seat as possible 3rd row configuration.  Instead of folding flat on the floor the seat backs fold down and the whole seat tips forward - left side, righ side or both.  This is the 50/50 configuration.  I have the fold flat option that has a single bench - no split.

I shall call GM and ask.
And if possible will serch the local wreckers.

Thanks

I really don't think you could.

Do you have the anchors in the floor that would accomodate the inside positions for the split rear?

Considering how the cars are made, I expect the mounts are the same, or at least the mounting holes are there to be used.

Go find one with the split bench, and look under the seat....it's probably pretty simple.

Anchors appear to be the same in the owners manual.  I have not actually looked as I need to remove a "convenience" centre to do so.  I suspect they are the same no matter which of the 3 rear seat options are selected.  Thanks for all the tips.

So are both of these rear seat options removeable?

If they're removeable then you might be closer to getting somewhere on this issue.  But the new seat would need to come out of a wrecked one because of cost.

What you need to do is find out from the parts guy what years are the same for this rear seat thing and what other GM van is a clone of your application.

The seats in all three scenarios are removable and the seatbelts are attached to the seats.  This is all good but I have a call into GM to see if they can let me know.  Just looking and comparing maybe not be enough.  I will post their response if anyone  else is interested.
