Its been very obvious that you have never driven anything GM. If you had you would have learned something about them by now but instead You continue to spread misinformation about them. The Moped might just be your speed as the GM's would be too fast for you as well as more quality then you could handle.

Wasn't driver's seat comfort another issue with the Golf, Shnak?  You had a number of reasons that you were not satisfied with the car, so you got rid of it.  You purchased a VW sibling to the Golf, the Jetta, and now seem very contented.

This isn't going anywhere Barrie. So I'll just let you in your little bubble and not bother you anymore. You're the only person I know that can put the words "GM" and "quality" in the same sentence without making a joke.

MrT, for a while, yes I tought the seat was defective in the Golf because there was discomfort on my left side of my lower back. My dealership actually changed parts of my seat in two seperate occasions but the discomfort remained. So I went to see a chiropractic and learned that my back was all screwed up and I learned how to take better care of my back ever since. The Golf and now the Jetta are amongst the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in because they're stiff and supportive; they don't feel like couches like those in domestic vehicles. Plus with the adjustable lumbar support in the Jetta, it really helps a lot.

And to refresh your memory, I traded-in the Golf not because I didn't like it but because we needed something with an automatic transmission. If you remember my thread a while back, I tried a Suzuki Aerio SX, Mazda6 Sport 4-cyl, Honda Accord 4-cyl, Toyota Matrix, a 2003 Passat 1.8T and this slightly used Jetta TDI. Without a doubt, the Jetta was the better of all those for a variety of reasons and I don't regret it at all.

I had a recall on my 03 Accord.  It had to do with a improperly angled hose in the transmission that sprayed transmission fluid to lubricate the gears.  All they had to do was check for metal filings.  If they were present they'd replace the transmission.  There were none on mine so they reangled the hose so it was spraying in the right spot.   At least that's what they told me.  Haven't had any problems so far.

Snack Sorry to burst your Bubble but I am not alone on the GM products as they are still the largest Car Maker in the World. Millions of people can't be wrong but you sure can. When the day comes that you know more then them about cars then all those folks I'll admit it. I won't hold my breath tho I can tell you that.

They're still the largest car _GIVERS_ in the world. They can't sell them. And they certainly don't make money out of giving them. Toyota sells what, 50% of the vehicles GM sells? And yet, Toyota makes huge profits while GM is crumbling under debts.

Explain this to me please... why can't GM sell their vehicles on par with Toyota price?

It's called 'GM Koolade'.  Every auto company has it in one variation or another.

It causes everyone who has it to defy all logic regardless of evidence.

Snack there's no sence explaining anything to you as you only want to carry on with more garbage. You have virtually no knowledge of the automobiles of to-day and don't listen to  anybodys view on here but your own.  I am sure The GM Corporation is Happy they don't have you as a client as with all of your whining and lack of knowledge you would drive them Nuts. Its not just the GM's you don't know about either as its starting to show with many of the other makes as well.

No seriously, explain it to me. Why is it that GM can't sell their vehicles at the same price as Toyota vehicles if GM vehicles are so good? I would really like to know.

The problem is the previous generation of North American cars have not been able to hold their own with their comparable Japanese competitor.  That has lead to a perceived public opinion on North American vehicles, even if it's unfounded, in today's market.  I recently purchased a 2005 Honda Civic LX Coupe...but in the process I test drove the Ford Focus, Pontiac Pursuit, and Chevy Cobalt for comparison.

To tell you the truth all of these cars are very nice and have their advantages and drawbacks.  I chose the Civic to be honest because it is a reliable car with the best fuel economy in the class, and the salesman for Honda (to my surprise) was actually eager to get a deal done...and gave me a good price in the process.

I would be happy to drive any of those vehicles.

Guys, this thread (albeit old) was about a civic tranny problem.  Arguments about GM not being able to sell cars etc do not belong in this thread.

The same offenders keep bringing up the same arguements in every thread, please leave some of that banter for general or something.

When a specific question such as this is asked and you have no real input, please move along......

Thanks

I had a 98 Civic DX hatch back in 2000 - had the tranny (5sp manual) replaced switched in four months before I dumped that junker.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE I have a 2005 Honda Civic SE automatic 1.7L 4door that had the transmission replaced at 40,000km and now at 170,000km it looks like i need to have it replaced again. The solenoids plug up on the transmission and stop it from shifting. there are small screens on the ports on the solenoids (which are mounted on the outside of the transmission ) that get plugged with junk.  the transmission does not have a transmission filter so if anything gets into the transmission then it screws the shifting solenoids and will burn the transmission. i have always drove Honda cars for years and GM trucks it is the first time i had this problem with the Honda civic.  I did find out when i went in with my 2001 civic and the brakes went in the first 10,000km and Honda paid for them with an attitude like i did it on purpose lol then i found out that the dealer paid for them out of there own pocket so it wouldn't go in the system.  I spoke to the mechanic outside the garage and he told me the brakes on the 2001 had to be replaced on allot of the civics.  Which got me thinking how many things does the dealer pay for to keep it off the books so it doesn't look like there is a problem. I think this is the global market at work, when China will be the only supplier and all cars will be a big steaming pile of crap.
