Dashing through the snow...
« on: January 08, 2005, 10:47:15 am »
I had my new Toyo Garrit snows and aluminum wheel set-up installed this morning. What a difference.
When I started off at 7:30 AM this morning for the tire shop the roads were clear. Ten minutes later and I was into a snow storm. Creaping along the 407 at 65kph with the flashers on and the rear end sliding out sideways every now and then. Honda Civics here and there in the ditch spun out. A white knuckle drive with those Summer only Dunlops.
Anyways, made it to the shop and the package is on, 160 lbs of rock salt in the trunk and it's like I've got AWD again.
I'll post some pics later.
Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos?

Just a quick question...Why rock salt for weight?
Just curious.

Got'cha Snowy. I need more time in my day to get everything done. These F%#@*& telecon calls to China in the evenings are getting in the way of life.
Here's the web site for the wheels. They installed the machined finish type KZ227 size 17 x 7. They look surprisingly good for a snow tire set-up.

Rail - good work with the repairs - one can't tell at all that it was hit by a GO Train.

Thank you, thank you very much. - Elvis
PS.Actually, the car was hit on the right side.
PPS. I think the back end looks a little low with all that extra weight in it. I have one of the summer wheel/tire units back ther along with the 4 bags of salt. I was planning on taking the wheel back to the auto body shp this week for them to finally get it refinished as a spare but never got round to it. No surprise there. :-p

Thanks Francis.
I was pretty happy with the repairs. In the end, Atlantic Auto Body got the nod.
Jeff, Not much to say regarding the handling with snows on other than as would be expected things are a little more wobbly at speed. The price one pays for traction once the Wx turns for the worse. Winter can result it many a pretty scene but an RX-8 with a yaw of 5 degrees up a long grade is not one of them.
